This insect is bad news in a garden if you're growing squash, as it is a squash vine borer, Melittia cucurbitae (Lepidoptera: Sesiidae). See http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/1188/ and http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/2000/2153.html for a fact sheet that includes control recommendations.

Dang it. It was on a squash, but a self seeded one in an old veggie patch now a flower bed. But I will go to the new veggie bed asap and pick them if I find any. Thanks, Patti
