Ipomoea Macrorhiza 'pink moon vine'

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Finally after 3 seasons, my pink moon is blooming!! I started it year before last and over wintered it in the bedroom. I thought a couple of times it was a goner but popped back in the spring once I move it out side. It is much pinker than the picture is capturing and has a very faint aroma....I love it!!! Yeah!!!

here we go...

If I don't get any seeds I will gladly send unrooted cuttings come fall, or now for that matter!! (if I can get them to root I will)

What a beautiful flower, congrats, Ronnie!!!!

Thanks Joseph, I keep going out to look at it!! Unfortunately right now I don't see any other buds, believe it or not.

Is this a perennial vine, Ronnie? Are the blooms the size of the Giant Moonflower "Alba"? Boy, I am really curious about your new bloom and the vine! Congrats!!!

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

it is a pernnial and does come back to get seeds you must hand pollinate if not moths around my sphinx moth did mine

give it a few days it might produce more buds and it may not depending on age. also be careful of rot too.

the blooms are a bit smaller the alba.

It's a beauty Ronnie. I love it.

Nice Plant and Very Nice Photos...(!)

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks Becky, Jackie and Ron! I sure an pleased with it!

Becky like Marie said it is a perennial but alas not for me...the flowers were a nice size but not giant and the fragrance was very faint. My husband didn't smell anything but I did. I do have a very sensitive smeller though!

If I can get some cuttings to root I have a south facing wall that seems to act as a micro climate for me. I had a few things not for my zone that came up. I am going to try it there and see if it comes back.

Very nice, I like your flower too!!

The root can be overwintered indoors in a mixture of damp sawdust and hardwood ashes...

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

i actually have mine in a pot during the winter with dirt in it and just water it spare ingly though out the winter. its come back so far.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Ron, I've brought in the whole plant and battled bugs all winter...should I cut it back and just store the root?

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Ronnie - You can cut the plant back (unless you have enough light to keep some vegetative parts going & continue to battle any potential indoor bugs) and store as suggested by either imzadi or myself...

OK...thanks

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

mine dies back on its own eventually especially if it gets to cold. i havent cut mine back due to the greenery does help it store food over winter.

pests on this one and one other morning glory species have been a problem through the winter but i use insecticidail soap indoors on it.

and once it goes dormant i dont worry about it too much just to water it once in a while.

i have also been know one the mother plant i had to cut down to just one vine or two. enought to give it the food it needs but to control the mites and stuff.

Thanks Marie!
