Okay, I'll bite. What's the story behind Cthulu?
How's your summer?
Cthulhu is a giant fictional being, one of the Great Old Ones in H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. It is often cited for the extreme descriptions given of its appearance, size, and the abject terror that it invokes. Then they made a plush one.
I love the idea of a horror being as a cute cuddly stuffed animal. Yes, I know I'm perverse. I'm also a huge geek. I'm even more amused that I buy clothes for him.
Then when we were going to the UK the first time I wanted a mascot to take pictures of during the trip and my brother and I decided Cthulu was perfect, so he went on both trips with us.
Here's a picture of him and me at Holyrood Palace in Scotland.
So nice to hear that you found Battle Abbey so interesting. I find it an incredibly emotive place - there is something about looking at the Battle field - its actually so small that you realize how personal the fighting must have been, how terrifying to have been able to hear, see, and smell your enemy throughout the night. It is extraordinary.
I started a Cthulu thread, including lots of pictures, since I keep bringing him up and being asked about him. So if you want to see more go here http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/878505/
