Gessie Stroll Down Memory Lane

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

Thanks Cedarnest. My Mom still has Bob, so I can still enjoy the prolific blooms whenever I visit. :D

Thanks for jumping in Don with such great pictures of the past. I always love Bob Serbin and that Maui has such great color. Your Bob Serbin looks better than mine ever looked!

What are you growing now? Inquiring minds have to know.

I have mostly minis and semis now. Not enough room for many or standards.

I have: Pony Ride, Rob's Berry Shake, Cool Blue, Little Thornbird and Country Romance.

Just couldn't resist putting down some leaves of Pacific Pearl from the plant I gave to my daughter. Definitely my all time favorite.

That is what I am trying to do..........limit myself to semi minis, trailers and maybe a few minis. I do love this Pacific Pearl..........gotta open up First Class and see who she is........great blue lovely blooms!

I have Country Romance and Cool Blue.......but they haven't bloomed yet.

Lovely Pacific Blue! I kept telling myself to stick with the smaller ones... Didn't work for long. I have wonderful small ones, but the standards always call me... I let them grow LARGE too. I just think they are stunning. I love having both.

Sally, I could have standards if I didn't grow so many different kinds of gessies (LOL)

Iced Pink Flamingo is as large as a standard av

Pacific Pearl:(Harris) 7263 - Double white/blue multicolor. Variegated, wavy, elongated, pointed foliage. Miniature. My original plant grew to a standard size though.

I had three Streps too. My Fav was Bristol's Blue Bird. (Robinson) Deep blue with a dark throat and two white threads. The darker blue purple in the throat spills out onto the lower petals

And: Dibley's Crystal Beauty. It was a beauty too. Cornflower blue with dark purple lines in the throat.

Finally: Dibley's Laura Streptocarpus. Pale pink with distinct deep pink veins on the lower three petals. Not the best pic.

I know Gail, you have lots of room but you just love to grow a LOT of plants! That is good! We get to SEE them here! Keep it up!!!

Dibley's streps are some of my favorites. That isn't fair that you have access to European streps. I am currently in the process of joining the British Strep Society so I can at least grow seeds of the various European streps. I love Fleischle, too!

I am not sure, Sally, that I want to belong to the Violet Club. The ladies I adore (you, too) but I think that judging plants is silly. It is all in the eye of the beholder anyway. Take three different judges and you would have a totally different perspective and I don't even like to follow the rules about growing . Right now I am sitting here with two CDs Marjorie was nice enough to bring back from the convention. One is The Pittman Way of Growing and the other one is Judging Gesneriads. I haven't even bothered to look at them yet. (I could learn a lot I know)

Well, the judging to me is just learning. I just have fun being with everyone. I guess it is just like any other thing you would judge, quilts, art, photos, contests of all kinds. I see it just as fun. I would hate being in a club that was really serious about it and not friendly! I have learned a lot and the people are so sweet.

The problem is I hate doing something and not doing my best, but I don't care about having the prettiest plant............I love growing outside as much as I do inside.........

I am the same way. I love to do my best but I have my violets for fun, to see how beautiful they are blooms and leaves. Same with my outside gardening. Experimenting and learning is fun for me.

I am SOOOOO excited! I JUST got home for my 6 week post op visit with my doctor. I am doing well and I can SLOWLY start to garden outside and do housework etc. Just have to be careful. I am so happy to vacuum again. Fred does it, but not as often as I like to do it.
