Can one hard prune a Pittosporum that has become leggy? I have several that were foundation planted in my front yard, and would like to revive them. Any advice would be helpful!
Thanks!
Pittosporum - pruning help needed
Assuming they're established plants, then it shouldn't be a problem.
They bounce back pretty quickly and a very "forgiving". I've hacked them back to near nothing and they resprouted and did fine.
If they're the "Silver Sheen" species though, I'd be very cautious..
I thought they would be pretty tough. These look to be simple P. tobira, and thankfully NOT Wheeler's Dwarf, which are ubiquitous . . . These are well established. Thank you for your thoughtful advice!

Just keep in mind they do not respond well to shearing (you know, like a hedge). It's best to approach branches individually.
AMEN to that !!! LOL
It appears they have been sheared at one point, but not so recently that the leaves are cut. Otherwise they seem to have recovered. I may actually train one of them as a small tree, just for the hell of it.
