Anyone else out there from the Sacramento Valley? How ya doing w/all the smoke? A couple days ago when it was 110 degrees plus the smoke as thick as fog was the worst it'd been. Today there's a thick haze but the temp has dropped..so much easier to be in.
Looks like the house my parents last lived in has burned; it was in the Concow-Yankee Hill area. which as of yesterday lost 50 homes. i very wooded lightly populated area.
Must say the Bright red-orange sun is very pretty!
the Valley Smoke
I'm from Modesto, just moved a year ago. I've heard it's very, very bad this time. That's horrible about the homes.
Yes, between the smoke from Big Sur and the Butte fires, it has been pretty thick. Today we have a little breeze that has helped clear out quite a lot.
How you enjoying the weather change from Valley to AR? You get more rain there than we do here in the summer?
I love it back here. Temperature it's not that much different, the heat is about the same, in Modesto it's 100 degrees, here it's 92 degrees with a heat index, so it feels 100 degrees, and everyone fusses about the humidity. In CA I always got heat exhaustion because I don't perspire properly. With the humidity I don't have that problem so much. And there is no brown grass or brown anything, with the humid air during the day and when it cools off at night it pulls the moisture to the surface of the ground, so when I go to work in the mornings the ground is wet just like it rained, keeps everything green! Fireflies are pretty cool too, but there's not as many here as in Tennessee. Everyone laughs at me here because I'm always on the radar, but I think it is so cool how there can be this severe thunderstorm in one place and 10 miles away it's bright and sunny! It's very tropical and foresty here. The winter gets colder, it ices some and snows a little, and the bugs are bigger! LOL
SacValley, we live just south east of you and the smoke has been terrible. Yesterday and today have been so much better, thank heavens! We stayed in for several days with the air going, no fun as you know! I think we'll be moving to Malvern, AR. !!
LOL come on down! Just don't move into the city of Malvern, pick Benton or something LOL
So--- you are against population growth!! Benton it is then. LOL
LOL Benton is a bigger and a nicer city than Malvern is LOL They're both in dry counties though LOL
dg; we actually live in the town of Wilton. I graduated HS from Jackson way back when the HS was in the "old" building in town.
My DH and I like to go to Giant Burgers; just went last wknd and glad they have a new fry-cook; at last; a good honest hamburger. They had a cook for a while that I thought would put'm out of business.
crissyr; does dry county mean no adult beverages? I really like my cold beer on a hot afternoon..
We like Giant burgers too, don't go very often though-- They always have a Help Wanted sign in the window, maybe she's hard to work for ? Love their milkshakes, like turning back time.
Jacquie
Yea, you won't be getting a cold beer in a dry county LOL We like to go party every now and again, we drive into Hot Springs, that's in a wet county.
hi ~
Been interesting reading about the smoke and how far it's traveled into the SacValley. (My sister).
And, from the look of the fire map of the Butte fire, it seems the area we knew and loved, (Feather River) is changed for generations. Sorry it's been so awful for so many.
Loved the thought of the burger and fries:)
