Redtwig Dogwood: Ugly in August?

Pittsburgh, PA(Zone 6a)

Hi everyone....

I just read a comment on another site regarding the Ivory Halo redtwig dogwoods. It was made within a list of shrubs for good fall color. It said:
"Cornus (Dogwood, except Ivory Halo, which looks like h**l by about August anyway)"

Do these shrubs really look bad by late summer? I'm trying to plan a shrub border and wanted some of these for the winter twig color.

Planning on shrub-shopping this weekend, so any knowledge for or against would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Cheryl in Pittsburgh

Never mind...the site owner emailed me back with the answer:
The shrub is susceptible during hot humid summers to a fungus which makes rusty spots all over the leaves & wilts them. Can be treated with a fungicide at first symptoms.
I used to get the same problem with a huge patch of bishop's goutweed.

Geez, all we HAVE here in the 'burgh are hot, humid summers.....
