Research Land REcords

I was able some months ago to go to a land record site for the state of Maryland and search for a deed using the deed reference number and then was able to actually print out a copy of the deed. I have googled and googled and cannot find the site I used, apparently did not save as favorite and is not in my history.
Does anyone know of a way to find a deed online using the reference #.

Candee, the site that Herbie posted looks real good because it's on assessments and taxes, those go right along with deeds...however that site may not have the actual deeds listed. You may have to go to the court house in the county the land is in to get that. Do a google search for xxxxx county courthouse, xxxxx state....whatever county and whatever state the land is in. You'll get a hit...maybe a few. Once you find the courthouse online you'll be able to find the office where the deeds are recorded and then you'll be able to look it up by reference #. If the deeds are recorded online somewhere other than the courthouse the info should be listed on the courthouse's website with a link to it (I would assume, since everyone should be looking there for the info since it *should* be stored there in real life). In PA I believe the office where the deeds are kept is called the Register & Recorder's Office...but my memory may be failing this morning.

Now, I don't know why you need this info, but the site that Herbie sent along may be of great value to you also. His site will tell you what that piece of property is valued at...for tax purposes. I say "for tax purposes" because tax purposes are not always the same as market value. My brain isn't working 100% yet (on my first cup of coffee here) but in PA our tax assessments are done at 50%, so if our assessment records show a value of $40,000 our home + property is actually worth $80,000 if we were to put it up for sale. Back in the '80's the records were done at (I think it was) 20% value...so you'll have to contact the courthouse and find out how those records are done...unless it's listed on the site or on the records themselves, and sometimes it is listed, so look carefully. Don't assume anything. Of course, maybe it's just PA that likes to do these fun things...but I don't think so.

Also, don't let anyone or any website fool you into paying them to look this info up for you! That's a scam. You can do this yourself. You should not have to pay for it. Even if you have to call the courthouse and have the secretaries there do it. You'll have to pay for the copies being made and the postage to mail it to you, but that's it. A nominal fee of maybe $10 if you're getting a lot of copies made. Online services charge a lot more than that. This info is free to the public. However, if you're in a hurry, have the money and just don't feel like looking...go ahead and use one of those services. I just wanted to let you know that you don't *have* to.

I hope this info helps. Whatever you are looking for, *any* kind of record for anything, it should always be able to be found at the courthouse of the county the land is located in...or the county the folks lived in...or the next county over, lol!

Thanks you folks that is just what I was looking for and I also was able to get to the deed site and actually was able to print out copies of the deeds I wanted.
