This is the bug that is eating my petunias. Can you tell me what it is and what to do?
CLOSED: What is this bug
I still cannot see any insect(s); either it/they are very well camouflaged or are out of focus. (Where exactly in this image are they supposed to be?) If you cannot take a clearer picture, I suggest that you take some of the damaged plants, including any insects on them, to your county office of the University of California’s Cooperative Extension service (see http://cenapa.ucdavis.edu/ for contact information) for assistance in identification and control advice.
I don't think those are bugs, those are the DROPPINGS from what I'm reading may be a kind of caterpillar larva that eats petunias. Have you identified it yet? My petunias are getting destroyed equally - just started after over a month of beautiful blooms - right down south of you in Hayward, CA
I can see no bugs on or under the leaves or under the stemsof mine, so I assume this may be a very lightweight crawling or FLYING insect in the Bay Area doing this, and leaving after feeding. I have put slug/snail bait out but do not believe they have been causing this damage.
Let me know if you find anything more out about this. Thanks!
