Where do you grow your MGs? Summer Addition.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

There was a thread much earlier this year on this theme and I so very much enjoyed it. I thought maybe we could try it again with some new pictures. Since the old thread got rather long I thought I would start a new one. Please share your pictures.

Well last year I tried growing MG in my window boxes. I hung a piece of cotton twine over the top of the window ledge and just let them go. They grew wonderfully there and really added a beautiful touch to the boxes. This year I gave them something more substantial to grow on. We took a couple of inexpensive trellises and cut the bottom stakes off. Hung them on either side of the windows like shutters leaving just a little space between them and the wall to give the vines some space. I have no flowers on these yet but they are growing well and I expect some blooms shortly.

I also have deck boxes with lattice fence. My first blooming MG was on this fence just a few day's ago. The first of many to come, hopefully.

I'm with ya holly. good idea. All the vines must be very different by now. I'm still in the same situation though (fortunately) wracking my brains trying to train vines where I want them to go. I gotta go today and get some chicken wire and make some frames for it to hang on the newly stuccoed & painted blue house. My newest idea is to hang just wire frames made of cedar on the wall above and beside the trellises and let the vines paint the scene. I'll take some pictures of it all in a little while.

But remember this thread was designed so I could see your whole gardens or at least large sections of it where the vines accent other things. Did you ever get your pool hidden Holly?

No, I didn't get to try hiding it. We took an extended trip this spring and were so far behind when we got home. We had so many other projects and plants to get in the ground that I finally just planted the MG's I saved for the project somewhere else. Because I didn't want to wait any-longer to get them in the ground.
I pressure washed and stained the deck, the boxes and the lattice and moved my box pond over next to the deck. It's looking much better than it had but the pool is still pretty bad.
