Psy went over the bridge today

Circle Pines, MN(Zone 4b)

My boy Psy lost his battle with cancer today.

17 and a half years ago My ex-boyfriend and I were headed over to take his elderly aunt to lunch and we heard pitiful mews coming from the bird of paradise plant by her driveway. They were coming from a tiny little greyish kitten... I gave him some food and water, then took him home and bathed him, only to find out he what white... with lovely tabby markings on his forehead and tail. We called him Butterscotch, but within 3 days he had picked a new name - Psycho. And he was a little terror!

Two years later, on Thanksgiving day, he got in my lap and started purring for the first time. I will never forget that.

He used to sleep on me every night when I was home. I don't know how I will be able to sleep tonight.

He has been fighting something, most likely cancer, for some time now. The vet couldn't tell without a biopsy, and at his age I stood a good chance of him dying from the anesthesia, among other reasons. I had made the appointment and cancelled it twice. But yesterday it became completely obvious that he was ready to go over the bridge. I held him the whole time, and told him he would go to sleep in my arms, and wake up with his brother - feeling young and healthy again. And so it was.

Good bye, Psy my love. I will miss you, and you will always be in my heart.
