Just about the ugliest lil bug I've ever seen. I'm guessing it's responsible for the eaten bits of the petals.
Can anyone I.D. it?
THanks!

CLOSED: Ugly bug on rudbeckia
This ugly little bug is beneficial, not harmful to your plants, as it is a nymph of an assassin bug (Hemiptera/Heteroptera: Reduviidae) - see http://www.flickr.com/photos/yanov/170131264/ for an image. They are voracious predators on other insects, likely including whatever is chomping on your flowers.
Thanks, Suunto! I've seen other types of assassin bug nymphs (the little orange ones) in my garden before, but this is the first of this type I've seen. I will leave him right where he is!
