well u hav to get him in some how so do wat ya must LOL
names for chickens
Well TF I'm glad to hear that you feel that way, cause frankly I very much that way also. My wife is the Greatest, but she really gets upset when I tell her how much I hate McDonalds food. There's nothing like chicken...in the coop or in the pan. I did see a thread of interest for rabbits though, and that is another great meat and pet source. I used to raise rabbits years ago but I must say I enjoy the chickens more. P.S. I have four white crested polish and one of them is so friendly that she stands on my feet until I pick her up. She is only eight weeks old. Are they always that friendly? This is my first experience with them, and I love her so. She is so cute. Would enjoy more info on them. Thanks for the input. Haystack
trust me they will never be as friendly as they are when there young some will still be friendly and stuff but u wont be able to do a lot of the stuff u could do with them when they were chicks
ou rpolish weren't handled that much and they are still very curious and not scared of us...
there is even a thread here about raising guinea pigs for meat...
Guinea Pigs are funny little Gremlin like things (actually whatever the furry things were before they turned into the Gremlins), I couldn't eat one. The Polish we have alot of, and I think they have to be some of the more, um, pea-brained birds we have. Friendly definately! You can't blame the feathered head for the lack of smarts because we have cut those feathers so they could see better and they STILL act goofy: ) No offense to those others that have these pretty birds, just my own observation, lol! My daughter named one of her Polish (buff) "Ditsy" cause she spins around in circles, changes her mind about what she was going to do, and basically spaces out ALL the time : )
I had a guinea pig when my kids where 12 and under, oh gosh. The stories I could tell on him. Most embarrassing, very embarrassing!!!!!!
OK, now i HAD a Polish we called Spike. He was MEAN. would try chase & attack any & every person (but low man on totem pole with the roos). Ended up being dinner, when he attacked me. infected my arm, swelled up & all red. I got a tetnus shot, he got the knife! Rest of my polish, all breeds, couldn't care less if we were there or not, long as they had food.
Now have a Creole banty named Gatekeeper (and a few other I shouldn't mention here). Tries to tap dance on your leg. Just hook him with my foot, and help him fly to the other side of the yard. LOL sure is funny when looks around wondering how he got there LOL Makes you wonder if he thinks he's ten feet tall, barely makes 8inches......I could wipe him out with one step!
lol, oooh ! I remember that mean ole spike!! lolol! I think DS remembers him too! cause a few nightmares being chased by a rooster! lolol!
wat dose a polish look like??
josh
See the taller gold (buff polish) one in the back? And the black white crested polish is just in front of him. Both are kind-of hidden by the grass.
Rest are banty's (mostly creole; barely see the Partridge Wyandotte hen; and a Silver Spangled roo). One of the creole roos is GateKeeper - tap dance on leg, if you let him!
wow i want a polish now LOL
mee too!
Hey sis, remember you can only have 2 (4 with a permit)! Which 2 will it be????? Aren't you building today? ^_^
yes, but how big nest box? 1 sq ft too big for reg size chicken?
you want i tsmaller, long and narrow, so she feels cozy. my hens didn't like the square boxes, i thought they were too big. but now they squeeze into corner places, SIGH...
lol, so all I really need is a feeder?! tee hee!
we are almost done and I think we messed up! the house is WAY too big for just two hens! ...guess I gotta get more! tee hee!
