I wrote a little story about old movies, nothing to do with gardening really, but if you have a chance to look at it I hope you enjoy it......And again, thanks for letting me post my stories here, I sure appreciate it.
And a Safe, Happy, Healthy 4th of July to you all.

Old Movies
Great Paul! We need a thread for aspiring writers. I just finished a short story on Monterey County, a day trip. But with the fires out of control, the time is not appropriate.
Ahhhh, geee, Paul. You read my mind again. I have seen every movie you mentioned time and time again. I would sit and watch The African Queen for days nonstop, because I just know when I grow up I am going to be Katherine Hepburn.
There is another movie that isn't that old, but to me it is an old movie. I have watched it a hundred times or more, and that is "Secondhand Lion". I like Robert Duval almost as much as i like Paul Newman, and to see Michael Caine play with Robert Duval in that move is something else. I even named my cat Jasmine, but I have to call him Jazz, because he is a he. I even cry at the end, every time I watch it.
I could go on about the others, but there is no way I will watch the shower scene. close my eyes and listen, yes, but not watch.(Psycho).
And Alfred Hitchcocks Birds, and Roman Holiday.....ahhhh geee.
Thanks for the memories.
golddog.....Glad you enjoyed the story...thanks for taking the time to read it......
Sharon me too...I love the African Queen, one of my favorite parts was when after their first night 'together' she asks Humphrey Bogart, Mr. Allnut, what his name is.......and I liked 'Secondhand Lion' too.....I liked Michael Caine and Sir Lawrence Olivier in 'Sleuth' also......One of my other favorites is 'Dinner At Eight' with Jean Harlow, Marie Dressler, Lionel Barrymore, Wallace Berry, Billie Burke.....and one more comes to mind with John Barrymore and Greta Garbo in 'Grand Hotel'....
Wanted to share this with you, I found it online, its a quote of the dialog from 'Dinner at Eight'...
Kitty: I was reading a book the other day.
Carlotta: Reading a book?
Kitty: Yes. It's all about civilization or something. A nutty kind of a book. Do you know that the guy says that machinery is going to take the place of every profession?
Carlotta: Oh, my dear, that's something you need never worry about.
It might be one them things you have to see to appreciate it but its hilarious watching it, Kitty is Jean Harlow and Carlotta is Marie Dressler.....and speaking of good old movies, going to watch one this afternoon after a deadhead session with my coneflowers and verbena.....'Withness for the Prosecution' with 4 of my favorite actors, Charles Laughton, Tyrone Power, Marlene Dietrich and Elsa Lanchester.....You know what I've learned about myself writing this old movie thing?...I don't really have "a" favorite movie or "a" favorite actor, what I got is a situation where my cup runneth over with wonderful movies and great actors and I got a 'favorite' movie while I'm talking about it but mention another one and its my favorite too.......:)
P.S. I got a tall verbena with its tallest bloom hanging over nearly on the edge of my laptop computer screen and this hummingbird is more interested in that bloom than what I'm going on about old movies....I bet he's about 18 inches from face right now....He keeps coming back on his rounds, hitting other blooms hanging over the railing in front of me....You can't see them things writing inside the house......:)

Go put on a red shirt, Paul and he will sit on your shoulder and tell you what he thinks about what you are writing. Or pink, but think you and he both would prefer red.
Kitty and Carlotta: Truer words were never spoken ^_^
Trouble is, I cant watch movies in the summertime. too many daylilies, too many gold finches, too many hummingbirds.....and my coneflowers are blooming, finally. And at night I have to write stories. Have to. It is an obsession. Kinda like old movies.
The first time I ever watched a movie it was Cinderella, and it was in color. I watched the birds dress Cinderella and tie her bows......decided right then and there i was going to be an artist, so I could draw pictures just like that. To this day I can still draw that little blue bird.
Well, that's the difference in little girls and little boys. You probably would not have been caught watching Cinderella and going home to draw what you saw.
Another great story Paul..although I was short on time yesterday I did manage to paint while watching Casablanca..now that must have been to 50th time for sure...amazing when we get attracted to a particular movie how many times we're willing to watch the same...
paul - great story. when i was in the navy we used to get for or five movies a month to watch. we watched some movies so many times that we would act out the parts ourselves.
OK, Sharon I didn't watch Cinderella, but I did watch Bambi and Pinocchio loved'em both......After watching Pinocchio, I never ever lied again to my parents, well I didn't until I absolutely, positively had to.......:)
Betty, I'm shocked, shocked to learn there's gambling going on here....Paul, your winnings, Oh thank you........:)
Herbie, glad you enjoyed the story......Sometimes I'll talk along with the movie cause I know all the lines by heart, but I only do it until my wife Linda throws a pillow at me.......:)

I am sure you deserve more than a pillow.
Thanks, Paul. Love the story. I love, love old movies....much more than any new ones. My favorite Bette Davis is Now Voyager. Another favorite is The Heiress with Olivia DeHaviland and Montgomery Clift. I recently recorded some of the old Laurel and Hardy movies. And yes, W. C. Fields is great...wish TCM would show some of his. All I watch anymore are the old movies as well as the old Andy Griffith show.
Well Sharon on one or more occasions I've gotten more than a pillow......:)
rosethyme, glad you liked the story, it seems like it was written with me and you in mind......Now Voyager is a great movie and I really like Montgomery Clift....and like you I wish TCM would show some of the old ones with W.C. Fields, the movie version of 'David Copperfield' when he played Mr. Macawber was a great role for him......
