Can anyone tell me..

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

how to remove the black gunk left on the driveway after shooting off fireworks? I tried fireplace glass cleaner, but it didn't work. Thanks for any TRIED suggestions!

(Zone 7a)

I've tried bleach mixed with water. Sometimes it works and sometimes it just lightens the concrete and leaves a mark anyway.

Sadly, I just rent and need to find a way to get the marks off before I move on Sept. 1st - dumb me, for not thinking about the marks the fireworks might leave. This is my first year doing them (I hate them), but my two grandsons wanted to do them, so DUH on me!

(Zone 7a)

They should wear off by then. Ad I don't like them either unless they're done prfessionally.

You can be sure this will be the LAST time we do fireworks!!! LOL

Maybe some Resolve Carpet Cleaner? Just a stab in the dark. I'm trying to think of something faomy that will penetrate the pores of the concrete and "lift" it out.

I will try that - thanks for the suggestion!

The guy that advertises Oxy-Clean says it gets out every stain. After wetting it down he would have you dry it with Sham-Wow.

Sorry. The little devil on my shoulder wouldn't let that one pass.

Muriatic acid is used to clean concrete. I have no idea what it would do on a carbon stain. My first guess is you'd have a clean black stain in the center of a clean concrete spot on a dirty concrete driveway. It would probably be more noticeable than it is now.

they used to make concrete cleaner used to sell it at lowes but may call around to indutrial cleaners and such and see

(Zone 7a)

Did your spots come off? What did your use?

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

The spots did NOT come off! I have tried:

Bleach
CLR
Muratic acid
Goof Off
Goo Gone
Dow Bathroom cleaner
Ammonia
DIF
Easy Off oven cleaner
Resolve carpet cleaner
Peroxide

All were applied (full-strength) following directions on label, and scrubbed with a wire brush - stains haven't budged!

(Zone 7a)

Oh no. Maybe it will take time and wear. Good luck with it.

Try a good dose of baking soda...with a few drops of vinegar.

I don't know about getting them off. I have a similar issue due to my husband. But, for future reference, if your grandsons talk you into it next year, putting down a sheet of metal or any other non-flammable material will prevent most of that.

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

There won't be a 'next' time - there are too many neighbors doing it for me to waste my money and energy - the boys can do it in their mother's driveway - it's gravel!

Try Krud Kutter at Lowe's. I used it to remove mildew stains on my siding and it worked well.
Walmart has it in the paint section also.
Try looking in the paint section also for anything that you might see that is labeled for getting out stains or removing paint.

I have decided, after spending (on cleaners) twice the amount I spent on the fireworks, it would be smarter to just let ma nature take care of it, and wait to see what the landlord says. Thanks to all of you who made suggestions.

Jo, if someone you know has a pressure washer, I've read that using a mild bleach solution in a pressure washer works on burn stains like that.

I will check into who might have a pressure washer and see if they will come and try that.
