Oak Wilt

Saint Paul, MN(Zone 4a)

A friend of mine has been told that one of the oaks on her lot has oak wilt. Her yard is pretty heavily wooded with a mixture of red and bur oaks. She says she's gotten conflicting advise from the city and an arborist she talked to (I don't know the specifics - I'll find out more when she visits over the holiday). Does anyone know a good on-line source of information about oak wilt? Thanks, Peg

Here's some info from the dept of forestry http://www.na.fs.fed.us/spfo/pubs/howtos/ht_oakwilt/toc.htm
And here's a publication from U. of MN http://shop.extension.umn.edu/PublicationDetail.aspx?ID=442 The price listed is $0 so I'm assuming it's something you can download but maybe not.

Thanks for the links, ecrane. The U of M publication is free but not a download - it looks like they mail it (I ordered, but haven't gotten it yet). The Forestry link has useful information.

My friend has 3 clearly infected trees and one possibly infected. The question is how to take care of the remaining trees - root cutting, fungicide, neither or both. I'm just glad I don't have to make the decisions - its hard to lose such beautiful, old trees.

Here is The Ohio State University Cooperative Extension Fact Sheet for Oak Wilt. Our local oak savannah park is battling this problem at this moment. It's very difficult to deal with.
