I was hoping to be there on the 26th, but DH has been scheduled for his cardiology checkup that week in Temple. I hope you have lots of help moving your garden. DGers are known for pitching in when a member needs help.

do you think that we might be able to transport them to my parents place and replant? maybe dig for a certain amount of time and then replant whatever we have? i didnt really think about the replanting, it will be quite a job and you are right, with the heat, they really need to be replanted as quickly as possible.

tracie

Tracie, I'm going to post here because I think I'll be there the 26th,

If I faced the same kind of move here's how I sort of envision it. Roughly figure out how many plants your new beds hold....ok, say that's 50 plants. Go through your garden and mark 50 of your named and most important plants. Make sure they're pre labeled. You could use a piece of say, blue tape to mark those. Half a day could be digging these most important plants into boxes and bags and straight over into their new beds.

Looks like everyone has pots they can bring. Mark the second most important plants you want but don't have room in the bed, you could use regular masking tape or different color tape for those. This way the most important gets moved first and no one will have to ask questions as to whether it's this or that, goes or stays or what anything is. Your time and attention is going to be needed for sure and anything to help us do work without waiting to ask you questions will help a great deal and move faster. The faster we move the more we can get out! Don't worry about common or easy to replace plants. We can all help you replace those later. How does that sound?I hope this helps and I hope we can get it all moved for you:0)

Tracie..

I'll be there with the lowboy... where do your parents live? BTW.. will you need the lowboy that day?? I can probably be there the 19th too. Just let me know!!

As far as food.. hotdogs sound quick and easy.. what do you think? And I always have to bring my sweet tea.. don't leave home without it!! I can bring 3 gallons, unless you don't think we'll need that much... I am flexible on the food!

Lynnea is right.. you need to organize the move so you can get the most work out of us DGer's!!...LOL...

Becky

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

You'll need that much Becky with the heat! Y'all be sure to stay hydrated!!

Tracie, I'm planning on making it on the 26th. I'll bring a cooler of cold drinks and probably some sort of snack food.

If the distance is not too far between your place and your parents and if the new beds are ready for planting, maybe we could do shifts, or have two crews, one digging and one planting? Then we could all meet back for a bite to eat together.

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Count me in. I will bring about 50 one-gallon pots and 10 or so two-gallon pots, some cut mini blind garden markers and a sharpie. I will also bring some easy to eat finger foods like turkey roll ups and cut veggies.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

YAH.... we are going to have a party too..LOL it will be good to see ya'll again...

Eyes.. you coming??

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Can't do this one Beck.....250 miles away. But y'all just know I'll be thinking of ya!

If I had a way of getting there I would. I have a lot of pots I could donate. I will donate 25.00 to buy some soil too. I could probably mail it to Pat or Dawn. Just let me know.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Sylvia....

We only stayed at Charlenes until that following Monday.. then came home

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

wow, you guys are the best! well, my parents live about 8 or so miles from my place, not too far away. we went and bought the lumber today to make 4 12'x5' raised beds, so those will be ready to go. it is a good idea to mark my favorites, but that is going to be hard! they are all my favorites. lol i am especially anxious to get all my daylilies, the hardy hibiscus, lilies. you guys are full of great suggestions. thanks again,

Becky

I'll be there. I've got a busy weekend but will check back in beginning of the week. Ya'll take care and stay hydrated tomorrow:0)

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

great guys! we had 5 DGers today and got quite a bit done. probably dug about half the garden and moved it to my parents. most is still not replanted, but at least it is at the new place. hopefully, if we have enough folks, we can move the rest and get them replanted. i really appreciate any help i am offered. you guys are the best!!!!

tracie

Hey it looks like the 19th went well! Anything your short of (soil, pots, bags, ect.)? Let me know and I'll try and gather extra of those.

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

well, i think we have plenty of pretty much everything. we mostly went with bags so that we had one clump of dls with id in each bag. the non labeled plants had more than one per bag if they were small enough. i have a ton of the plastic bags, my dad went to Sams and bought 1,000 of them! cant wait to see you guys. you dont know how much it means to me that you are coming!!

tracie

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Take shovels & pitchforks! Good soil & easy to dig but only if you have your own handtool.
We had one digging & one opening sacks, almost looked like assembly lines sometimes. lol
:~)

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

Well, I will come along if nothing else just to add an extra truck for the move. I work slow and rest often, but I guess every little bit helps. I know I could handle opening bags for sure! LOL I'll bring extra shovels and hand tools and lawn chairs if needed. It is a bit far, but I wanna help if I can.

Anyone want to ride with me I am just off 45 between Houston and Dallas. You could come down the night before if you would like to.

Charlene

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

every bit of help is appreciated, Charlene. glad to have you!

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Me too. I will bring garden tools, snacks and what ever else I can squeeze in.

Buffalo, TX(Zone 8b)

The NPR story is going to air today. Listen to your local Public Radio station to hear it, or go to www.npr.org and put "Goodwyn" in the search engine. It is the first story to pull up under the reporter's name. It will be available on the internet after 7pm tonight.

oh, if you are driving to my place this Sat, please dmail me for directions. thanks again!

DH heard the story on his drive home from work. 2 seconds of fame for me... I got an "ok" in on the radio. Becky got a whole sentence in, and smock got a few questions as well. Tracie's daughter did a beautiful job!

For those of you going this weekend, she does have very nice dirt. It couldn't be easier to dig in!
Tabitha

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I just listened to it, and I had big tears through the whole thing. There's no better people that DG'ers!

Lufkin, TX(Zone 8b)

awww! i thought i sounded like a dork. i always talk fast when i am nervous! it is really strange having a mike in your face and trying to talk normally. i thought my daughter, Victoria, sounded great. she is a great child and has great faith, if i do say so myself! they didnt use it in the piece, but she also said " who says you cant make friends on the internet?" i think she is right.

Tracie, you sounded terrific! and so did Victoria and the others! You always sound worse to yourself. It was a great story and I wish you the very best!

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Yep, I heard it too and glad things are looking up for ya. Shoot who knows with all them Dayly beds now in your dads yard, it just might be that he becomes the next great hybridizer, who knows.

Your daughter is a darling. You truly blessed.

Loved how the reporter said it was a gardening calvary and flat bed trucks. LOL If he only knew the real true passion and how much we care for our babies even down to the one poor pathetic stick struggling.

As my son used to say when he was younger. Gardeners are " tight".

May your new life and the lives of your child be filled with warmdays of love and sunshine and may your new garden flourish and bloom a rainbow.

For those who have been able to join in and help, big hugs for ya ((((((hugs)))))))).

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Traci, I have to concur, you sounded great. If they had stuck the mike in my face for a sound byte, I would have been a mumbling mess. I also tend to talk real fast when I get nervous. I am riding in the northeast Texas caravan driven by Cocoa, so I will leave it up to her to e-mail you for directions. :) See you tomorrow!
