Chicks arrived Question

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

I went out to the drive way and got some gravel, washed it real good that seems to be helping for now. They look like drowned rats. They are drying off tho. I am going to make 3 or 4 tubs now and seperate them them to about 15-20 in each tub. Thanks

Novinger, MO(Zone 5b)

I hope it works! If the gravel is porus, it might cloud the water......just make sure little pieces of the rock don't chip off in the water. I don't know if cloudy water will hurt them or not, just thought I'd let you know about it.

its drive way gravel, or what we had left over after the septic was put in. I picked big ones. It seems to work, got them moved back into my spare bedroom and the ac vents off in there. this room faces the west so it gets pretty warm in there, I will turn off the space heater after they dry up a bit. This morning they were all fine, I gave them water and went to get new feed trays got them in and boom soaked to the bone. I did get the dry ones moved into a very large rubber maid tub 20 of them so far, will count out the other two galvinized tubs once they dry a bit more.

a blow dryer with a diffuser is helpful...

so sorry i wasn't hear for you this morning, had my own asst drama. we got an unexpected storm last night [1 AM] that cause their heat lamp outside to explode. so we covered them. kept raining. so i scoope the water off the top of their tarp [4:30 AM]. when it fianlly stopped raining [7:30AM] i went and moved them back into the house, because storms will get wrose this afternoon...

if DH won't fix this problem, that is what i will be doing today and tomorrow. i want the chicks outside, and getting 50 more next week...

marbles from the dollar store are well, a dollar... for about a 100...

you can figure they will double in size each week. so until you get them in the stalls, you may have to keep splitting up the groups into more boxes. i always figure when i am done i will have more storage containeers LOL...

hang in there. it is 5 o'clock somewhere, but try to hold off on drinking till aftteer lunch.... about NOW ^_^

LOL thanks Tam, I am so wore out as i am sure you are. I had to run to town all the babies i could save were doing fine before I left, got home had the funeral box still in the house, low and behold 2 perped up, stuck them in the sauna and dang............ I have more boxes now, will be able to split them up, and they are going outside this week. Or maybe next week. They are doing great now, got the rocks in the water no drowned ones as of yet. My stupidity I lost a few today due to that. I lost 5 more 1) to cramped and the water situation. I am learning. Next week when I get the 60 surprise, I will have this down pat. Went to town today to get screws, nails, fence, do hickys thingys. (steeples) Fed them boiled eggs today, they tore up the container I had it in. Its gotta be a good thing. At first they were not interested, then OMG. To bad the other 3 eggs I boiled up was mine. Gotta boil up some more in the morning. Do you think they will get spoiled and I have to boil them eggs every morning?????

Dern all that you had to do, that is devotion, Did they all do ok??? I sure hope so.

I held off but I will not tell the time, I was beside myself, tomorrow is another day and should go smoother.

L2G what else are you feeding them? They should have food there all the time same as water.

you are doing great! was going to mention that once their needs are taken care of, like they aren't wet and cold, they will quiet down. unless they are crowded...

if they sleep too much they are too hot, raise the light or point it at an angle instead of straight down. if they chirp and huddle and don't move around, they are cold, point the light straight down or lower it...

got one call from my ONE flyer i got out [before running out of ink!]. have some intereste from church visitors. and got my 30 day classified in. i plan on getting something different every week for six weeks to make sure the ad pays for itself.

25 are going to Amarillo Saturday!!! yes, i lost four. but still have 50..

poor Zook and Yook. they nnapped all day recovering from keeping htose babies warm through the night. Zook looked like he had REALLY been through the ringer, but then he already looks that way LOL...

like Molly said, they have regular food too, right?

Hi L2G--Houdans do have a fifth toe, but they are suppose to be clean legged. What else has five toes?

Rankin, IL(Zone 5a)

hey cat... silkies.. favorilles??? really bad spelling

Lodi, United States

Yes! Faverolles! They have 5 toes and feathered legs. Silkies do too, but I think you would know if it were a Silkie--they are smaller and have really amazingly feathered feet.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)
