A friend sent me this picture looking for the type of pest that would create this problem. The owner lives in NY. Any ideas? I have never seen this before.

Gosh, beats me ~ never seen anything like it. Not sure if it looks like eggs or a big pile of poo.
I think I might be on a borer kick here, but it looks kinda like the pile of chewings left when one of those nasties bores into a lily stem. Is it possible to get a pic of the other side?
