Ok yes maam

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

careful who you call ma'am, my dear LOL. someone call my DH sir, he say, NO, I WORK FOR A LIVIN'... ^_^

I don't think you should just kill something for the heck of it though. I know of people that cross the lines on the road to squash turtles and it REALLY ticks me off. They don't see anything wrong with it. Not all snakes are dangerous to humans, and even the ones that are serve an important service. I can't understand killing them if they are not hurting your livestock, family, ect. Just mho.

Foley, MO

.....and yes tf, I agree. Ignorance IS the most violent element in society.

Novinger, MO(Zone 5b)

We have snapping turtles on the roads right now......they are slowing up on that though. I saw a big one in the other lane as I was going by, then passed a truck hauling a big trailer, getting ready to go by the turtle. I cringed and looked in the rear view mirror hoping he didn't hit the turtle. He swerved one way then the other and decided to go right over the top of it. The turtle was fine......just hope it got off the road!

My DH was the horse......yep, he knew he was out of his element with that one. His eyes were big, he had his head kind of cocked, and he had a funny look on his face. That's how I noticed him having a problem and he was the 1st to admit it. I said, you are scared of a horse? And a baby at that? He just shook his head and said look at those legs......my gosh!

Tonight I caught my 5 yr old DD reaching into the toilet......I said, What are you DOING? She said mom, there is a fly in there. (like it was no big deal) I said, if you see a fly in the toilet again, leave it there.......believe me, there are a million more of them. The whole time she has the fly (dead I think) in the cup of her hand like she is holding a prize. I said, why did you reach into the toilet to get a fly? She said, so I could give it to the spider mama. Oh, why didn't I think of that? We just hauled an old desk into the house and there is a little web under it with a spider and the kids have named it Fred the spider, so I didn't have the heart to knock it down. She put the fly in the web and then washed her hands. I told her next time she finds a fly in the toilet to leave it there, ok? She giggled!

Hey Patch.....if the little white wiggley things bother you, I would not plan on going tf's way for awhile. She's 'processing' something very big at the moment in her buckets.....should be thousands of little free proteins dropping from the sky very soon! LOL : D~

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

yep, guess with this stench we won't have many more visitors for a while...

Foley, MO

ROTFL!!! I'll make sure to stear WAY clear of Fritch Texas! ; ) Oh well, little faces only a mother (fly) could love!

Stanwood, IA

Patchouli78, I know what you mean about killing things just to kill it...
There is a creek that runs across the corner of our property and it splits off into three small tributaries right around us...anyway, every year for the last six years we've had this giant snapping turtle who crosses the gravel road just down from us every morning and evening. All of of a sudden it was gone. I mentioned to my stupid redneck neighbor that I hadn't seen it lately and he started laughing and said "I know! I stopped a week ago when it was in the middle of the road and clubbed it with a shovel". I wantéd to club HIM with a shovel!

Unfortunately my mercy stops at snakes that choose to hang out in any of my outbuildings. I don't mind seeing them in the yard or garden, but that's as up close and personal as I can handle them. ugh.

Here's the snake that ate one of my babies...it was the last chick that it ate! (Momma Cat thought the snake tasted pretty good.)

Wow! Is it a gopher snake? Did the cat kill it, or did you just let it eat it? Turn about is fair play!

Anderson, TX(Zone 8a)

We call 'em chicken snakes here...don't know what the proper name is & it didn't matter...it ate one of my babies!

Conroe, TX

Yep, we call them chicken snakes too. Killed 2 so far in the past month that were eating our eggs. So far none have gotten the babies.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

We also kill snapping turtles in our pond, We have something like 150 or less channel cat in there there we purchased. I'll be danged that I will let them eat my fish. Same goes for my chickens, purchased them, their feed, supplies I have a good deal of $$$ invested. No critter is going to get them IF I can prevent it. My lively hood comes before wildlife.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

well, i need to borrow some snakes to finsih off htese rats! my chickens arebig enough and would kill the snake before it got them... but those rats took 3 PULLET EGGS TODAY< MY FIRST!!!

Luther, MI(Zone 4b)

Yep, TF, you do need some of those bull or king snakes to help clear out the rats.

Ferrets will work too, they pursue the rats down their holes--but I think they eat chicks as well--Still you can train them to come back out, keep them on leashes and house them in a cage--my son always wanted a ferret, but they illegal in CA--there is a whole ferret underground here, with vets that secretly treat them and all.

Luther, MI(Zone 4b)

Yes, Catscan. Ferrets do eat chicks. Although they are very cute, they are another weasel.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

i bert i could get a ferreet off freecylcle. meanwhile DH has some shotgun powder that was given to him, won't work in his black powder gun. so we are sending those rats a message tomorrow! got two pullet eggs today... guess the rats were preoccupied, or since it was hot, the henhouse was never vacant...

In England they always had the ferrets on leashes. The first time I saw someone walking one on the street I could not figure out what it was.
