Lampyrid Beetle or Lightning Bug - how do I get rid of them

I have (had) a lovely cherry tree that was infested with what I identified as Lampyrid Beetle or Lightning Bugs in Brooklyn, NY. I now see them on my mint, strawberrys and flowers! Does any one have any recommendations as to how to get rid of these bugs. Are they harmful in anyway? Help?!!?
