Whenever I feel life is getting in the way, I think of Emily Carr who trained as an artist then took 25 years off from her art while she earned a living and supported herself and her sisters. She returned to art in her 50s and is a reknowned Canadian artist. So Harper, you haven't ceased to be an artist, you are just busy doing other things right now.
Also, remember that Kant never did anything of significance until he was 55 years old. And when did Grandma Moses start her artistic career?
Are We Amateurs?
Yes, love your poetry, Chuck.
Michaela, if I remember correctly Grandma Moses was in her 90's when we were dating and she was painting then.

Chuck, you and Michaela dated? When was that? Before she met her DH or after?
No Carrie, not Michaela, GRANDMA MOSES!
You were dating Grandma Moses? And she was in her 90's? You dirty young man!
Thanks Carrie.
Now I'm not saying that I'm old but.......
.......I can remember God asking me, "what shall we call it?"
.......and I answered, "How about dirt?"
Not gonna touch that. I've heard too many of those from DH. But not that one!
(He had a dinosaur for a pet, took notes on stone tablets 'cause they hadn't invented paper yet (and boy was his book bag heavy), played catch with Methuselah after school, etc. etc.)
Ya, I know, he lived across the street.

Chuck,
great poem and sense of humor!
Dave
No, Chuck never asked me out . . . sigh . . . (giggle)
I love this thread and the thoughts and feelings expressed in it. I, too, am in awe of Chuck's poem. It's perfect for all of us.
May I always be an amateur!
My wife tells me I am!
LOL!
A great reminder that we all have similar feelings, but maybe at different times. I've been concentrating on containers on the deck this year, cuz Mom LOVES flowers and since she can't get around that well. (thankful she can get out on the deck at all. just a couple of months ago we thought we were going to lose her. her condition changed overnight. ) My time in the garden has been pretty limited to when the aide is here. That is if I don't have to go shopping. So the 2 big gardens are having to kinda fend for themselves
It's such a joy to see her face light up when she sees the color and marvels at the growth from day to day.
You all have been an inspiration to this "amateur"
Jan
Welcome Jan!
What a heart warming story. Good for you.
Dave
Yes, welcome to the nuthouse, Jan. I sure wish my dad would take an interest in plants again! This is the guy who was giving me instructions on how to mist his orchid from the Cardiac Care Unit. I'm glad you and your mother can share love of flowers and that cool growing thing they do!
Carrie
Amen Jan,
I think sometimes that we plant gardens and grow flowers to share not only our joy but something of ourselves.
We find our days so crowded with LIFE, that it becomes hard to regain the simpleness of simple things.
Any time we grow a flower and we share it knowingly or not with someone, we add a little beauty to their lives.
Chuck
AMEN often the best gifts are the ones that are unintentional.
People appreciate when I leave!
I don't.
Dave, you couldn't hide in a crowd.
That famous smile would give you away every time.
Chuck
Aww.. thanks folks!
