Introducing myself to the NE forum

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Asiatics do multiply fast but those bunches make quite a statement when they are all in bloom.
I'm not there yet. In three years I'll be throwing them at the neighbors.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The Bobbex website does show a separate product that is supposed to work on woodchucks.

Vincentown, NJ(Zone 6b)

Hey Donna...Go ahead and empty the dirt from the vacuum cleaner bag(s). I've read that it can be added to compost piles, so why not use it directly on any area where you see the critters loitering.

By the bye: If anyone out there knows of a good way to rid the garden of moles and voles (yes, I have both!), please do give me a holler. I've tried everything, and short of sitting outside with a scattergun...nothing works. Maybe a few firecrackers tossed into the main burrows? Gads, now where do I get firecrackers. I think they're illegal here in NJ.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Thanks Victor, I’ll check out the site. I think the Critter Ritter worked some. I haven’t seen anything behind the bush; I dumped a bunch down the hole as directed. The rest I spread but it didn’t go far. I think between that, the fox bottles and me standing guard in the evening it’s a little better. I have to get either more critter ritter or something else. I’m going to have to spend a fortune to cover this property.

Roisemarie, I did see a product on the liquid fence site for moles and voles. I don’t know anything about it but everyone likes the one they have for deer. The link to their site is above.

DH has hung a vial of fox urine in a chipmunk hole which chased him out of that spot & into another. It was ok as the first hole was in an iris seedling bed. Supply was from Agway.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Hi Iris, I used the fox urine from Agway, I have little bottles all around the gardens directly in front of the house. It seems to be working some; the damage in the last 2 day has been minimal. I still need to get something to spray on the plants. It would take hundreds of fox vials to get keep them away from all the beds. I did find some product on line, but am look locally to avoid shipping a waiting time.

Re squirrels--I think I must have mastered the hawk call--I sometimes give it when they chatter at me and they take off.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cool! Can you attach an audio file of it so we can learn?!

South Hamilton, MA

Just listen to your neighorhood hawk & practice.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Maybe I should get a recording and have it play out there.

South Hamilton, MA

Come, come you have more talent than that.

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

It might work when I'm not outside.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Welcome- Roise, I cut thru Vincentown when I do the long way to my brother's in Vorhees. We also have friends that live in Vincentown.

I heard chewing gum in their holes works too they can't digest it. I've also heard moth balls.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

people people... ever hear of MP3?

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Ya know, that might not be a bad idea. I played it and the dogs went nuts. The neighbors may think I’m crazy but….

They seem to have vacated the hole behind the Hydrangea; I ran the hose and made a mucky mess. Not a great job of filling it but enough so I can tell if it’s in use. It’s going to be a couple more weeks before I can move dirt around with a shovel. I’ll put some moth balls back there, and see if it helps. I know where they are coming from; there is 7 acres of wooded wetlands that abut my backyard. I watch them come out of the woods from the deck. Not much I can do about that.

Atkinson, NH(Zone 5a)

Good Morning:

I have solved lots of Woodchuck and Squirrel problems with a "have a hart" trap using Grey Stripe Sunflower seed as bait. After the catch you must take a several mile ride to remote wooded area, open the trap and your guest is on its way to a new home.

May take several trips to clear all unwanted guests but it works.

John

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Thanks John, I have thought about it, but trapping is not a possibility for me right now. It will be weeks before I can consider setting traps and moving them. For now I’m just trying to keep them away from the house (most important), I’d like to stop them from eating dinner in my garden if possible.

Removing wildlife from one area to another is illegal in MA--not sure about other states.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Then, Iris, I wonder what the "animal control officers" do when they remove animals that aren't supposed to be on our property and allegedly relocate them. On the other hand, they ARE the law.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The animals removed from my garden were taken to a huge park nearby.
Sometimes they are "dispatched" to skunk-groundhog- heaven.

South Hamilton, MA

Dear AC--"I have a question?" Then you will find out what they do.

Removing wildlife from one area to another is illegal in MA

Skunks, chucks that are a nuicence cant be removed? Especially skunks!!! Just get a have a heart trap and let them go, some place out in the boonies.

South Hamilton, MA

We are semi boonies & don't want them here. Do let animal control make decisions.

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

Hi Donna! I too live near the coast-somewhat near CHS. Hope your back is feeling better.
When you go to Agway(I'm assuming the one in westerly), look for the lady with the shoulder length red hair-she has a wealth of info on gardening! She knows alot on the organic stuff too.

Sue ☺

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Hi Sue, Thanks for looking in. I am up and around now but still have to be careful so I’m learning to live with the weeds this season. I’m very close to WRJ but I usually use Agaway on R2. I do go to Westerly for the super WM often so I’ll check it out, they seem to have better specials at that one.

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

They are nice at that Agway too. Have you checked out Allies Tack shop-also on Rt 2 past Greggs Restaurant? They have good grain prices and alot of the time more selection.
Sue ☺

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Hi Sue, the people at that Agway have been wonderful to me. When I first hurt my back I just asked for the stuff I needed and they got for me and loaded the car. That means a lot when walking is difficult and lifting impossible. I’ve never been in Allies; I’ve driven by but never stopped.
Do you know of anyplace in south county that sells the 3 or 5 gallon nursery container?

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

Not off-hand. I did a quick search on google and found http://www.nurserysupplies.com/products/blowmold/bm.php
but their nearest stores are in CT and MA. Not sure if any of the local nurseries carry them.

Allies will load up your vehicle too. Very informative staff-feeding, worming, ect.
