CLOSED: Metallic gold eggs....

Londonderry, NH

I noticed shiny gold eggs on the upside of my stargazer lily leaves, and today they started hatching! They hatch out as brilliant red, then quickly change to reddish/brown. What is it??
Thanks in advance, I can tell I'm gonna like this place :)

I just found the same thing on a blade of grass in my yard. Your bugs look like assassin bugs with spines. I am still researching and hope to find out something soon.

looks to me like an unwelcome visitor-the dreaded leaf-footed bug. they will love everything you have in your garden! lol

It looks like one of the leaf-footed bugs, helmeted squash bugs. http://bugguide.net/node/view/29533
I haven't seen the golden eggs before. Neat. Squash bugs - not so neat.

But, you'll note, they had trouble IDing the eggs to a specific species. So perhaps we should just say a coreid bug - at least at this time. http://bugguide.net/node/view/49778

If you could get more pictures as they "grow up" it would be most helpful...

i'll be happy to send you some of the "golden eggs", ceejay. i have them here all the time! lol i've found something that kills these guys and every other dastardly bug i spray-dr.bronner's castile soap and water. it's been amazing and i finally took control of my garden again! i will probably be touting it every chance i get so be forewarned! lol i was at my wit's end with these and the little leaf-notcher weevils. this soap kills almost instantly.

i've had several d-mails since i posted this so here's the info. i found dr. bronner's eucalyptus on amazon, 4 bottles, free shipping. not all of the scents are direct from amazon, so you won't get free shipping on some others. it has not burned any of my plants except for a Hibiscus coccineus and they are touchy anyway. i've found that it literally kills a bug within 10 seconds. i've experimented on weevils, leaf-footed bugs (adults included), a spider and a wasp (both of which were on my porch and the dogs were after them or i wouldn't have killed them). it killed them all. do not spray on bees!!! or when bees are present. it must contact the insect in question as it is not systemic. i use an ounce per gallon in my ortho dial n spray or a teaspoon in a 16 oz. hand sprayer bottle for spot sprays.

i hope this answers all of your questions. i think target and other stores also carry it so if you're not an online buyer, it is available in stores. debi

Darn it! I really HATE those things. They almost take over my yard. Dr Bronner's Castile Soap? Hmmm...I'll have to try and find some of that. Sounds great!

I found another page that has the little critters as they hatch and grow up...YUK! LOL!

No thanks, trackin. You can keep those golden eggs right there. Y'know, I don't think (think is an operative word here) we have those in my county. I've never seen them before. I googled and found them in some other counties in Texas (not many) so it's probably just a matter of time. Leptoglossus is very common here - way too common.

Thanks for that new link, Sheila. It was a good one!! I'll keep my eyes out for those babies.
