I thought this was a horsefly, but after looking at pics of them (amazing pic, btw, bebop), maybe it isn't. They don' t have the spike at the tail end that this thing has. Anyone wanna tell me what this is?
I thought that thing was a stinger, but it looks like horseflies bite with the stuff up front.

Could it be a bot fly? There mostly are horse bot flies but now in some places there are human ones, too.

Oh, we found it! It's some sort of robber fly.
Glad it isn't a bot fly - gross! Thanks, though. :o)
It might be Promachus fitchii- Bee Killer/Giant Robber Fly.
