My very first Morning Glory

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I realize that I just put the wire behind the plants yesterday (running late this year and hoping that they can survive the heat until fall when they will really take off.

The pots in the bins behind the picture need to be taken to the dump. This is in front of a storage shed I have by the house.

hard to get good pictures as the morning glory is facing south so the east sun is coming in

There is this one and the last one doesn't have a bloom yet.

Congrats, Gail!! You ought to have good success if you provide water to the vines when the soil visibly dries out. The vines will of course tell you when they need a drink when they begin to wilt.

A porch, a morning glory and a chair - perfect:) I love the way you arranged things there. Thanks for letting us in on the beginning of the show - it's only going to get better and better.

(ps - hanging head - my mgs now have a grand total of 1 set of cotyledon leaves - wonder if I can interest DH in reading by one of those indoor halide lamps as he shares his books with mgs this fall after frost? lol)

I think I am overwatering right now, but will change to what you said, Joseph. I will wait until they are visibly dry.

bluespiral, you are funny! I will keep you informed as the show progresses.
My father had one of those halide reading lamps..........that really makes me think of him.

Go to Lowe's for 100.00 and then go to Walmart for the 8 dollar shop fixture and 6.00 for the gro lux lights which are supposed to wide spectrum. I have 8 gro light stands in the house and couldn't live without them.

Thanks to everyone for your encouragement.....

Gail - How cute is that!!! I love it! Just give them a few more weeks and they will have that fence covered in vines and blooms! I use Bloom Booster by MiracleGro every 3 weeks when watering them. It really helps them produce the blooms! :-)

I cant wait to see your pictures in a few weeks, you have done a great job

(Zone 7a)

Becky, in addition to applying Bloom Booster every 3 weeks, do you also apply fish emulsion and Messenger? You use Moisture Control Miracle Grow for the potting medium, right?

I've been hunting your earlier post where you said how much of what and when, but haven't found it yet. How about putting all four ingredients for your MG successes in one post with how much you use and how often so I can *plant* it in the sticky index?

It'll be interesting for folks to see the different ways different gardeners grow MGs in containers - we have so many different circumstances among us now.

Thanking you in advance,
karen

Nice set up gessiegail!

Thanks. It will be fun for everyone to share how they feed them. I have used several kinds of fertilizers and they got a big dose of 15-30-15 Miracle Spray day before yesterday............and then some more in the watering can (LOL)
I am using the Miracle Grow soil with the moisture control in it..........

(Zone 7a)

Oops - I need to rephrase my remark about fertilizing MGs - there's already a section in the sticky index on fertilizers that I hope everyone interested will read; but, I am also doing a separate section on container culture of MGs. I hope the two sections will complement each other, somewhat.

Those look amazing Gessiegale! My mg's look pathetic by comparison and have to say I'm with bluespiral and will probably be watching tv with mine this fall.......

Thanks so much for sharing!

You are in zone 5b!! Yikes that is a cold zone. I should have had mine out and going by the end of February. Now the temps are close to 100 every day and I am hoping that I can keep mine alive until the cooler weather prevails in the late fall. (I am protecting them from the afternoon sun though)

Don't give up as yours still have time to show off.

(Zone 6a)

It's just been so cold here lately!!! It's usually roasting this time of year.......it has been hot out the past few days so they're starting to grow :D

I can't get over how lush and healthy yours are!!!

Karen - I use Bloom Booster and Fish Emulsion mixed together when I water my MGs every 3 weeks with that fertilizer mix. It seems to work well for me to get lots of blooms on my MGs. I have used Messenger, but I have not noticed much of a difference. So I can't say for sure if it is adding to the health and blooms of my vines.
