Help with traveling with cuttings,

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm going to a Round up tomorrow and have cuttings and live plants I need to take.
It'
s only a 2 hour trip, but I don't want to get there with ruined plants.

Here's what I think I'm supposed to do!

1. Take the plant , shake off the dirt,
2. wrap in wet paper towels
3. Use a ziplock or saranwrap and wrap the roots, zip so it's against the stem, but not really tight.

Same with cuttings.

I am taking a lot of hostas, and coleus that I'll need to wrap that way. A few others.

Are there some I shouldn't take out of the dirt? I have sedum I wanted to carry too.

Thank ya'll so much. This is my first time to carry things like this, so don't want to mess it up too much!!

For most things, you've got it handled. Only if a plant is very big...(12" top growth or more) would I pot them up. Bigger plants will handle the stress better if they have something besides a wet paper towel around their roots. You've got to consider that you're traveling with them, then they are sitting throughout the day, then the new owner travels with them home..AND, they have to wait till that person can put them in the ground. Just keep in mind that they have a ways to go after they leave your care.

Remember to avoid wind-whip. Travel in an enclose vehicle is best. Sun and wind on an open truck load? Is a NO NO! Happy RU. :-)

Thanks, I've been wrapping wet (not dripping, but wet, then wrapping that in damp newspapers, then the baggie or saran wrap. We are putting them in an suv, but there will be 3 of us, one reason I wanted to take as many as I could without pots.

Would it be ok, to put them in a box with a lid as long as the lid came off when we get there..(about 2 1/2 hours.)

2.5 hours travel isn't bad at all to your destination. I'd bring some misting bottles to help mist the cuttings if needed. It worked for me. Enjoy.

I do 11 hour road trips with larger plants. I find plastic bags rather than potting up works best. I slide the plants fresh out of the ground into the bags then water in the bags. They travel in a box for support. Then in their new home to replant push down the bag and lift the plant directly into the new prepared planting hole. I get a lot less transplant shock this way. Hope this helps.

I second Melody. Thank ya'll so much. I think I'm ready, probably will lose some, but it will be ok. Taking extras. I'm really excited, never been to one
