MG - ID...

Blue Picotee?

That would describe the flower well. As to the cultivar, I defer to others.

Thanks - I received a mixed bag of seeds :-)

A leaf shot would be helpful as well as a side shot of the flower to show the base of the flower and its sepals. It looks like a nice Japanese MG to me.

Nice looking bloom ya got there Bec!

I can not ID it either. It could be a cross of a Picotee and something else. If you got a mixed bag of seeds, then quite possibly the person sharing the seeds grows more than one cultivar of MG. Some MGs are considered NOIDs (No ID) because they are an unnamed cultivar which probably resulted from crossing two different vines. Bees or hummingbirds nectar from various blooms and crossing could result. :-) Whatever it is ... enjoy it! It's really lovely! :-)

Thanks - it is happily growing in a "mixed MG pot", this one showed up also

ditto Becky on the I.nil...2nd one is a red flaked 'purp'...

Be careful, Bec, these JMGs are as addictive as the Adeniums! LOL

I hear ya :-)

Now this one showed up - it is in the same mixed pot - there are tons of buds on all the vines which I am hoping will open shortly - I think it is the same as before - just different :-)

Bec - The flowers can change with each bloom. Here is one of mine. See all the different blue blooms which are from one single vine. Pretty amazing, huh??? :-)

Not all MG vines will do that though. Some keep the same bloom color and pattern with every bloom!

Amazing plants :-)

I hope you will continue to post more photos of your mix of MG vines! I want to see what they all look like when they bloom! Very pretty!

Ok, here goes - now the "mixed bag MG's" pot is finally doing more than one at the time -

Bec, Gorgeous blooms. Thank you for sharing

Becky, love your blues above, all the different patterns on one vine.
The star pattern is a beauty too.

:-) Oh no - this is way more than one vine! I have a HUGE pot filled with MG vines :-)

Ron, I so appreciate the info - excellent - I will attempt collecting seeds - never done it - but, I am sure I can figure it out :-). If I am to learn and continue with MG's next year I think I might go about it a little more "scientific" - such as planting them separately and not in ONE big pot! :)

I'll keep taking pictures as the vines produce them :)

It should be challenging keeping the vines separated in the communal container, Bec! May the Force be with yew!

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Joseph - LOL! No kidding! I am having a real challenge keeping mine separate growing in the ground along my picket fence! I can't imagine trying to sort the vines out all in one pot! Sounds like Mission Impossible! (And in honor of all the Japanese MGs this music video honors the lady musicans! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqBpYvgcnQI&feature=related)

What great music and interesting style! Do you have any of their recordings, Becky?

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

No, I don't. But watching that video makes you want to find out more about them, doesn't it? :-)

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

A suggestion for separating vines for seed collecting ... I use straws split and cut into short sections. Slide a piece onto the vine right near the bloom. I use different colored straws for each cultivar of MG bloom. That way, I hope I can just collect the seeds by straw color instead of trying to trace the vine from the root to the tip to determine which seeds go with which vine. Antoinette came up with this idea originally, and I have been putting it to use this season!

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Hmmmm - interesting idea - I might try that next year - this year it IS mission impossible - ah well, I'll just keep enjoying the flowers and take pictures! :-)

Netcong, NJ(Zone 5b)

Bec_No_Va - You could tag a few select blooms with the split straws or pieces of certain colored yarn...I know I'm interested to get a few,but it's certainly your prerogative...

I have so many MG pictures now I figured I'd just post a link :-)
