CLOSED: Please help ID this large wasp/hornet?

here is a pic i took today of a large wasp, hornet or ? she was pretty large, maybe 1 1/2 to 2 inches long and about as thick as your pinkie.

thank you so much for the info. i dont remember ever seeing this wasp before and so i was very curious. it is a very imposing looking wasp, so i am glad to know that they are peaceful to humans unless provoked. thanks again,
