Well, it's been a while since I had any puppies, and those that I did have were born at my house. I got two puppies from a girl in the country - Great Pyrs. They had been living in a field with mom & dad and five siblings, along with goats, under an old mobile home for shelter. Everyone was rowdy and healthy acting. I've had them two days now. I feed my Jack Russell really small kibble that is organic, so I thought that would be fine for the pups (they were weaned-ish and eating canned soft food, no idea what kind). One pup is acting pretty lethargic - he still goes potty, eats (but just a little) and drinks. They haven't had any people food, nor have I seen them eating any plants. No signs of worms in the stool. He's been a constant by my side since we got him. Now he is practically in my skin, but hiding under the desk. He doesn't want to go outside much, so I have to push him along...lol. He does his business then just plops down. He was really respondent and learning well, now he's ...recalcitrant. His sister's nose is moist and cool, his is dry and warm.
A friend of mine suggested that the food might be too rich for their systems, causing them to feel badly. But the other one isn't acting this way. Should I change them to milk and oatmeal until my puppy food is delivered?
I don't have a car (we're between 2 houses moving) and I'm not going to spend an arm and a leg on vet bills (my apologies to those of you who treat pets like beloved family members, but I have a farm mentality, these are outdoor work dogs), but I would like to know your opinion on if I should lessen the food load for the li'l guy?
The owner told me they had been given their Parvo shots, but I got no paperwork so I don't know when it was...I think she gave it herself (she has lots of barn animals).
Thanks.
