Can Lilies be Mulched?

Wauseon, OH(Zone 5a)

I would like to know if all Lillies can be mulched and how deep should the mulch be?

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

I mulch all of mine, with a variety of materials like straw, grass clippings, and woody stuff ran through the chipper. Lilies appreciate cool soil around their roots, so a nice layer to shade the soil is beneficial. Most of my mulch is 2-4" deep, but some mulch deeper in the north for winter protection (for less hardy varieties).

I mulch mine...didn't ever think not to! I just use wood chips and I suppose in the summer there is about 2 or so inches. In the fall/winter I add more.

Mulch? Definitely. Whether I do 2 inches or 4-5 inches depends on the size of the plants. My little nursery bulblet plants would be smothered with more than 2 inches. I prefer shredded oak leaves when I can get them, but any organic mulch is very beneficial.

I always mulch everything, including lilies, with about 2-3" of small pine bark chips. Never had a problem.
