Growin, you must be real busy, Haven't seen a post from you in a long time, with my new shift I don't know Who, Where Or What anymore. LOL
Glad to hear from you again.

And seriously Ned, take care, my thoughts are for you, too.

tillysrat - I have worked quite a few hours at the nursery and Plantfiles keeps me busy. Took a ton of images at the Seattle Arboretum & the Locks. It's been such a weird spring - like everyone's been holding back planting.

Ned - hoping your results show out good.

I think we need to do mass green thumbs up for Ned to help turn this illness on its head.

Now I've been thinking this is a lady fern that popped up in my vegetable garden pathway several years ago. But I thought I might check with the fern experts here. I need to transplant it, since it has gotten so large it is difficult to work around and is now having offspring arrive to completely fill in the wheelbarrow right of way.

YEP,Holly-the frond pattern exactly matches the Lady fern-Athyrium filix-femina.

One way to tell lady ferns for sure is the fronds start and end narrower than the middle. That is a sure way to tell.

The Spiny Shield Fern frond is strongly triangular, widest at the base and to a point at the end.

From the picture it sure looks like a Lady Fern, but the double check will nail it positively.

Growen, the only thing that is injoying all this is the weeds and the grass. LOL
And its SUMMER? Boo

AnalogDog-also the smaller leaflets on the main fronds are alternating on the lady fern. And the shield fern isn't native.

I hmiss spoke about the Spiny Shield Fern meaning Dryopteris expansa instead. Oops.

As to IDing the Lady Fern, I was unaware that the leaflets were alternate, and that was definitive for the Lady Fern. Thanks for mentioning it. My comment about the shapes of the fronds is only the quick way to tell the Washington natives apart.
