Actually once upon a time we turned them around. Used the first harvest for the second planting. They just need to dry a bit. Any that are exposed to the sun sufficiently to green up will sprout readily.
If I don't dig them up soon enough, I can find them sprouting on their own.
Which does me no good, here.

LOL from the Stores i go to the flea markets to get mine got theam last month i keep theam in the dark for a few weeks i buy medium size ones and plant theam home paul
Back on the "tires" subject, having worked as an electronics contractor in two separate tire factories, I would never plant food in tires. They (the manufactures) use some very nasty chemicals in the rubber to make it adhere to the steel cords which are used in most of the tires produced. Just my 2 cents.
