Need help!!! Wilting lily

silver spring, MD(Zone 7a)

I don't believe this is happening! My casa blanca is wilting. 6', about 16 buds, doing great then all of a sudden the top is wilting. All of the others around it are fine. I think they all grew from the same bulb, I don't remember planting that many in that spot. Just this one and it seems like over night. No browning, no spots, no streaks. Needless to say I'm beside myself. I'll send a pic later. Hope someone can help.

Two possibilities that come to mind:

1) Botrydis. A disease that can affect leaves or stems. If this is it, the stem is infected just below where the wilting begins on the stem. Soon the wilted stem will keel over, as the disease generally turns tissue to mush before it dries. This can happen above or below the soil line (you didn't say), but the bulb will be unaffected. If the whole stem is wilted, try tugging on the stem and see what it is like under the soil.

2)Lily borers. I've never had this, so I am going from literature. A wormlike borer eats the live tissue in the stem that supports life above the point of entry. I think it would still be inside the stem if you would like to perform surgery.

3) I suppose also, that it could be mechanical damage by some rodent, breaking or eating the stem.

How far down on the top does the wilting begin? Got a picture?

Just loaded up a bunch of pictures, unfortunately I was so upset I started a new thread. The wilting starts just at the base of the infloresence.
