CLOSED: Bug with Fool-You Eyes

This was on our deck in the Hudson Valley, NY ... didn't seem to be a flier because when I touched it it just walked away ... what is it????

This is an eyed elater (Alaus oculatus; Coleoptera: Elateridae), the largest click beetle native to North America. its larvae, unlike those of most other click beetles, are predaceous.
