One plant, one description, or one photo. What could be simpler?

What do you get in return?
-A chance to win a very cool prize (no trips to Disney, in case you're wondering);
-An opportunity to give back to a site that gives us so much;
-A sense of belonging. You'll make Dave's Garden truly "for gardeners, by gardeners".

Can't find a plant? Really. Check your seed catalog, your trade lists, your photos. There are thousands upon thousands of plants in the plant kingdom. We have 1300 in our database. Chances are good you'll find a plant that isn't in there yet.

Too difficult? If you filled out the registration form to become a DG member, you can enter a plant in the database. Fill in a few blanks, choose from options in a drop-down list, hit submit.

So what are YOU waiting for???????

By the population sign I see there are 3,655 other DG members out there. Let's see what happens when everyone pitches in and adds a plant!

Nana, thank you! Your latest entries have opened my eyes to two Genus of wildlfowers I had never heard of until I read your entries: Uvularia (Bellwort) and Disporum (Mandarins)

From the photos I came across, they are beautiful native plants and unique additions to our database. Way to go, Nana!

Uh oh, Nana's entries are being pushed off the home page, as new entries are rolling in. Guess she'll just have to enter some more neat stuff!

As for the other 3,660 DG'ers: don't wait much longer! (I hear that the prizes are very very cool.) You'll be the envy of all your DG friends if you win.

We are closing in quickly on 1400 plants - we need just 26 to hit this milestone.

Two more days......

I received an E-mail recently from an un-named member who may be kicking in extra prizes to "sweeten the pot". No guarantee, but the winner may receive extra prizes (in the form of nice plants and seeds) from this (reputable) member.

I'm not sure who has added the most - Dave is the keeper of the statistics. But if you go to any member's page, it'll show you how many plants, descriptions and photos they've added. (Hint: I'd check out PoppySue, MzMunchken and Baa - I suspect they're among the top contributors, although some others may be running close behind.....)

And also check out go_vols. She probably has the most contributions to the database, but of course she is disqualified for winning this contest. :)

Is it not possible to get credit for adding "general descriptions"? I'm adding information (in the form of general description) to the database, but it doesn't show up unless I add the plant in the first place. When I add a plant or upload a photo, I appear to get credit, but not otherwise. Am I missing something?

Oh yes, absolutely you get credit for adding to an existing entry - every photo, every description you add counts the same as an original entry. I know your name doesn't appear next to the thumbnail photos, but it does appear next to anything else you add to an entry, and if you click on a photo, your name should appear beneath it (I'm pretty sure that's how it works.)

I know for a fact that Dave has good records of everything you have each contributed :)

Baa's only managed a sad 27 so far. Striving to make it a 1500 mark by the end of tomorrow though LOL

Baa, should I hold everybody back while you super-speed your way to 1500? grin.....I bet you've done more than 27; if you create an entry plus a general description, that counts as two for purposes of the contest and challenge. And if you add a photo, that'd make it three......

But if you get us to 1500 plants, I'll be forever in your debt, as will the other 3673 (and counting) members here.

Come on ya'll - won't you help out Baa? I'd hate to think of the candles burning as entry upon entry is added.......if everybody will take a few minutes (10 minutes or less) to add something, Baa can get some sleep tonight, LOL!
