Does anyone know if this is a Black Swallowtail? I have looked at images but they don't have this much blue. This is looking down at the wings spread open.

It's a Red-spotted Purple, Limenitis arthemis astyanax. A lot of the swallowtails are very confusing, lots of mimicry and local races. But this one doesn't have the tails.

I see them here, they're beautiful. I spent half a day once trying to get a decent picture, it never happened. Those are great pics! You should post them in that bugfiles page - it's great to get both sides of the same butterfly.
I wish I had more sun, the shade made it grainier. But I did post it. Thanks again!
