I have a young cleyera. It seems to have a couple of seed pods developing. Does anyone know when the conditions are right to take the pods, and how deep to plant the seed etc...?
cleyera
Hi Kelly
You will notice the seed pods beginning to split open when they are ripe. The seeds from my cleyera japonica are bright red...you can't miss them.
As for depth of planting, I'd say surface sow or barely cover. They also need to go through stratification. I always find several babies growing around the parent in the spring.
Hope this helps. Paula
