Seven Fords
Well now that one brought a tear. What a sweet story, Paul. Thank you.
OMG I'm so laughing...Paul, can't believe you are touching on so many of my memories, do you have ESP by any chance...must go home and look through my photo box so I can show you our 'jeep' episode...my hubby wasn't exactly a happy camper...not that I can blame him...lol...
Was you crying about me about to drown in the creek trying to get the cable out under water or about them kids being best dressed in all Calhoun county.....:)
Paul from Alabama.....
Betty, you show me somebody that has ever had a Jeep and if they have even the littlest bit of adventure to'em, well they're gonna have stories....Like me and like you......:)
Paul from Alabama
yep, and all because I wanted an ice rink NOW!!! blizzard and all, know you can visualize and remember that sound of 'glug/glug/glug' while you stand in amazement..only took 3 backhoes working in one of worse blizzards we've ever had along with a come-a-long..must have been the creek that was still running that prevented the ice in front of the house from forming...oh well, didn't want to skate in a blizzard anyway....
We kept the old gal for about 15 years just to play around on the back 40..infact we gave it to my cousin who lived on an island to use as a workhorse...
'Ja ever have a VW Thing, Paul???
Had a bright canary yellow one, doors came off, windows off, top rolled back, windshield folded down......floorboard worn through in one spot and I could see the rattlesnake I ran over, stalled that sucker in front of a church once when they were having a baptizing in the river.......
don't think I should tell that one.
Loved the story Paul. I believe that every one has a Jeep story to tell, but yours would win the prize. My dad had an old 1940 something Jeep that was used to ride around the farm and check on cattle and such. My mother's VW Beetle was a bright green color.
Ruby
Sharran.....I got me a hankerin to have me one of them new fangled Bugs, and a canary yellow convertible would be just the ticket......the floors worn out and doors coming off, my wife and my mom just wouldn't go with it, but that doesn't mean that you and me couldn't tool around in yours, except when we get ready to run over a rattlesnake lets make sure said snake is already dead, if not, let me out, your run over it and you can pick me up on the other side.......:)....I got dibs driving through the first creek though......:)
Ruby, them old 40' Jeeps were something to have back then and something to have now.....I got a good friend that has a M37 Jeep he works on every now and then, its a classic from the World War II.....I love them oldies but goodies, that was when they built stuff to last.....thanks for taking time to write and thanks for reading the story...
Paul from Alabama
And then there was that time we stalled that Thing (it really is called a Thing) going through a rocky creek bed and the water was just flowing up through the hole in the floor. I got the kids out and we built leaf boats and sent them sailing on their way to the Mississippi or maybe it was Niagara Falls.....anyway somewhere wet like that. We always carried a come along....I don't know how to spell that........and after hours of intense labor and leaf boat building and eating blackberries off the vines along the creek, we finally got unstuck.
Good Lord, I know what you're taliking about now, The Thing....that 'thing' was cool......black berries and blue berries, my goodness I could go for of them about now....come-a-longs (sp?) were what everybody had that didn't have winches, I had one and a winch and you see what happened to me.....:) Biggest rattlesnake I ever saw in my life though was lying under a blue berry bush years and years ago.....I don't want to exaggerate how big it was but I might cause when I saw it I was right on it nearly and it scared the bee gee zees outta me.......I just backed up and went another way and I certainly hope he did the same or she....I don't know the sexual preference of the rattller but I sure hope it was happy with whatever it was.......:)

Don't have spare time today, but did enjoy all the stories that you have written that I read over the weekend. You sure do get in to some fixes.
Ruby
Ruby thanks for reading the stories you did and I hope you enjoy the others too....and yes I've gotten in some fixes, in fact I think I've specialized in fixes for sometime......:)
Paul from Alabama
Paul,
Love it!
Karen
Karen, glad you liked it....that was as they say, one of them days.......:)
Paul from Alabama
Hello, Paul...
Hope you are enjoying your evening.....
while I am enjoying the midnight sun!!!
Hey Sharon
Loved how you turned a 2 hour drive into 6, hey thats what traveling's all about......That was really cool about you already seeing all them animals.....Folks in a lifetime never see as many as you did on your 6 hour drive.....anyways I'm looking forward to your pictures but I know pictures don't capture everything, but I know you're seeing everything......good deal
Paul
Hi Paul....
Yep....every day is a tour, every day is a moment of awe......I am just really enraptured. I have taken so many pictures, and don't dare try to shuffle through them till I get more organized and maybe till I get back on my own computer.....awesome place here.
Today was a trip to the mountains, to the edge of the world it seemed, where tiny 1 room cabins are built on the cliffs overhanging/looking from thousands of feet above onto Resurrection Bay....I am keeping a daily log, already into it for about 18 pages.....
Seward is a historical town that lives at the mercy of nature, its face has been changed by major floods and earthquakes many times, but the old blends well with the new....So many things to tell you, but I am being called to dinner right now...
So later.
Sharon
I'm telling Linda about your trip and well with Brad having a place up there and well to make a long story short, I think we're going to go to stay with Brad next summer for a week at Kenai wherever that is, at least that what we decided about 2 minutes ago.....:)
Bona Petit....I love saying that about as much I love saying something is in 'context'........:)
Paul from Alabama
Paul,
My favorite word to stick into a conversation is penultimate.
Karen
You need to read whatever thread....maybe Best/worst....anyway wherever I just posted, about the cabins on the overhangs....
Oh dear god, this is a most awesome place, and if I ever get my pictures sorted and words to go with them, you will be as breathless as I am.
And the wildflowers.....even what we think we would recognize, well, it is all different.
Plants here are huge, they have to be to survive, but dandelions are about as big as our iris or daylilies...unbelievable.
This is the Kenai Peninsula....Look at the map....look at the southwest corner sort of.
So now it is midnight at home, and 9 p.m. here, and I could go lay out in the sun right now.
Oh, and a bird just sat on my shoulder just before dinner a few minutes ago...
I am telling you, it is simply unreal.
You all have to make that trip.
But it is chilly....hot for a few minutes, and chilly in the higher elevations.
Awesome place.......
Later.
S
Karen.....Penultimate will never and can never be my favorite word, I have no idea how to pronounce it and no idea what it means....and if you do know, either one of those things, well it just make me wonder what kinda folks you hang around with......:)
Sharon, read that thread late last night....Hey now, you put a cabin on the edge of an overhang, rock or whatever, I'm there......I've always loved that, loved them cabins up at Gatlinburg that hang off the mountain there, I just hate to wade through a 1,000 peanut brittle places and a 1,000 places to get a tee shirt that says, 'I Shopped Till I Dropped In Good Old Gatlingburg' to get to see the cabins......:)
OK I gotta run, going to Birmingham this morning with Linda, take care and have a wonderful time, as far as the bird landing on your shoulder goes, "farout dudess", that being the common form of the female 'dude'.......:)
Byeeeeeeee
Paul,
One definition of ultimate is last -- penultimate just means next to last. It's a fun word. LOL.
Karen
Karen, one of us ain't getting out enough......:) Funny thing I just looked it up in the dictionary and even it said that folks misuse it all the time....and misspell it too....Words are fun though ain't they, I like'em......:)
Paul from Alabama
Shar - Do you have a thread going for the trip? I would love to hear about the place. Just the little bit on here is making me very excited. I am so glad that you are getting to experience it all.
Thanks.
Ruby
Paul,
Yes, I enjoy words -- especially a word or phrase or the name of something that is different from place to place. Upon encountering an incorrect sign in a store, e.g. "craft sticks are on the next isle", I have been known to whip out my trusty ballpoint pen and "fix" it.
LOL.
Karen
Karen, don't you dare go near my plant labels with your ball point pen....:) but you don't have to, my wife already did......:)
too funny about you and your ballpoint pen, a trusty one at that......:)
Paul from Alabama
Paul,
All I did was put a big "A" on the front of the word "isle". I like to be helpful. Of course, sometimes my helpfulness gets me nearly disowned. LIke the time my sister and I were walking down the promenade in Venice, CA. There was a street musician singing "Will the Circle Be Unbroken" but he didn't know the verses. He kept singing the chorus over and over. So, I stopped to teach him the verses. Looked up 15 minutes later and my sister was half a block away waiting for me, while pretending she didn't know me. I know she was pretending that because she said so. However, the musician was happy -- I was happy -- my sister got over it. Just being helpful.
Karen
Ruby, grabbed a computer for a minute..go to Parking Lot, and look up CArol's and Ava's Journey. More will be on that thread.
Hi Paul and Linda....
Garden almost complete....
Body is not cooperating...but still upright.
S
My sister and brother spent a lifetime acting like they didn't know me, welcome to the club......:) And last thing, your street musician was kinda like me with 'Your Cheatin Heart' but Hank Williams.....That's about all I knew, Your Cheatin Heart wouldn't set me free or you free or something like that, I just hummed through the rest.........:)
Sharon, going there now, thanks.....My buddy Brad was reading through your posts and Ava's and he had a grand old time....
Paul from Alabama
Thanks Sharon - Will check out later on.
Ruby
