So is she Dr Seus??? Clemen

Berkeley, CA(Zone 10a)

Hi Clem
I don't think so..I think she looks more elongated and has less 'tendrils'.Also she is way less 'gold' Does she have an over abundant perfume? She is a cutie.
I think she might be a 'Charles grimaldi ', Clemen.

I agree with Annie. Your blooms also have too much corollal neck showing. It's difficult to ID a Brug since there are so many look alikes. Since she came to you unnamed, rather than adding to the misnamed confusion, it is best to keep on calling her mama Brug.
Dr. Seuss:

Charles Grimaldi:
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/3017/

She's not Charles Grimaldi either. There is also a controversy about what the leaves on the "real" Charles Grimaldi are supposed to look like. I've read that the leaf edges are supposed to be entire rather than serrated although some serration in the young leaves is OK. This is what the leaves are supposed to look like:

If you go back to the main file on CG, you see all kinds of leaf edges on her.
Many nurseries add to the confusion. Out of curiosity I have purchased CG from several different nurseries. Only two sent plants with entire leaves, the rest have serrated leaves. All plants are too young right now to bloom. It's best not to add to the confusion by taking an unnamed Brug and give it the name of a known Brug. Sorry to go on so, it's just the biologist in me.:-)

Clem.. is that the same brug that is fixing to bloom that you showed on the newbie brug thread??? It sure is very pretty!!

Now I know how you are soo smart Bettydee... and have helped me out on many accasions!! WOW.. so you are a biologist ,huh?.. Wished I knew more... I am learning.. but is soo slow. Please DO "go on" thats how us newbies learn!

Annie.. did you get your puter straightened out?? Is it your keyboard?

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Annie and Betty, thanks for the links, you are both right mama brug is just Mama brug for now, she is not Dr. Seuss or CG! The blooms start out white and then turn orangie with a nice fragrance
Annie, that is no river, is a canal at my house in Freeport, Long Island. We keep our boat and I bring all of my sunny plants there! We love it and all of the plants grow so beautiful because of the salty breeze!

Beck, this is my old Mama brug, the one in the newbie thread is a new one! Clemen

Berkeley, CA(Zone 10a)

Betty thanks for all the info. I get it. No name is better than a guess. Beck,i hope i can post this,i lost a whole dictionary of posts to you . I answered about 20 of your questions, but i forget what they were! And Clem, are your plants on the boat? Its very pretty there, does it snow?I would also flourish, like a brug, there.
Betty,I look forward to more of the biologist in you. Its helpful for us to have you here.

Annie, you're so funny, I can see brug blooms coming out your entire body hehe. The boat is parked in the canal on our floating dock, behing our yard! The plants are kept inside for the winter. And yes we get snow, although, the weather has been so mild that we hardly got any this past winter. All of the brugs must go in the house, if they freeze, they die! Clemen

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Annie.. did you get that puter fixed.. cause i need any answers to growing brugs!!..lol gosh dog... I bet ol dave ate the answers... lol.. sometimes my dmails go somewhere else....

Clem... do you live there or is it your 2nd home.... I think i would have to live there... love the water.. and the boat and the fish!!..lol

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Beck 2nd home! Clem

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Thats nice Clem.. we have another home in TN... 12 1/2 hr drive to get there gets mighty old!! And double the work when we go gets OLDER..lol

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Beck, I'm just getting started with brugs, too! They sure do grow fast! I can't wait for blooms!
Audrey

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Beck, the house is only 25 minutes away! Close by and heavenly, even now that the kids don't want to go, I can drive them back and forth in between houses! C

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Yes Audrey... they do grow fast.. still wanting a bloom!!!!!!..lol

Clem... now I might could enjoy having 2 homes only 25 mins apart..lol especially if it was on the water... we have talked about buying something on the water.. but just never did. We tried selling the house in TN and thought we had it sold. We carried the note for a yr. and last Jan. went back to "get" our money..welllll they didn't buy the house, and now we have an empty house and in this market, we aren't going to put it on the market for awhile...

ANNIE.... (hollering loud) .. hehe got that constipated puter "cleaned out" yet???????

Becky

Alvin, TX(Zone 9a)

Late post: beautiful brug!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Wow Beck, how unfortunate about not selling the house. Today's market is so scary, problem being too that the banks do not want to lend money like they used to!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Clem.... that's why we decided to "sit' on it for awhile.. besides we sold everything we had in the house, or sold here to replace with from the TN house.. soo there is NOT a stick of furniture there... we have to go back in August... gotta do another clean up.. paint etc.. ohhh I hate that... lol.. maybe when I finally get it all finished AGAIN..lol the market will be better.. here's hoping anyway...

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Keep our fingers cross!

Gainesville, FL(Zone 9a)

After five years of babying, this particular brug finally bloomed about two weeks ago. I was so thrilled I couldnt stand it. So it was just two blooms, they were the most beautiful peach color. Then this morning, I went out to pick up some of her dead leaves from the patio and almost fainted. That pup is FULL of buds. The are coming out everywhere. Even my established pink ones have never bloomed at one time as much as this one is about to. I can clearly see where the brug bug comes from now.

Berkeley, CA(Zone 10a)

Gratz gardenglory!
its a beauty
Beck..I think my puter is all good now...
We were going to buy our vacation home but gave the moolah to our newlywed daughter to buy her first home...its tough times for selling.
You guys should check out my post on possible allergy...I am SO hoping it isnt my "napping place"
anyhoo..beck..I think I have 10 brugs.
:-)

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Annie.. so glad you got that puter straightened out... what a nice thing to do.. giving the money to your daughter to buy their first home... I probably am not that nice..lol Since I have been following that allergy thread, been wondering just what got a hold of you.. but if it's the brugs... I sure don't mind you sending some of them my way... esp. the Dr. Suess!!!! lol... 10.. huh.. are they all that large..????

Becky

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Forgive me, but what's so special about Dr. Suess?

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Audrey.. I have read she is an easier brug to grow and makes many large flushes.. more than some other brugs.... Anybody else know for sure?

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

What color is she? I might want one!

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

The one Annie started this thread with... back at the top.

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

That is pretty! I have a yellow noid cutting.

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Audrey....... oh that will be sooo pretty!!! I think the key is like Annie said back up there somewhere........ to just neglect it... course that's after you get her rooted and a big strong plant. Next spring I will plant mine in the ground... just got to baby them a little longer..

Kissimmee, FL(Zone 9b)

Doe41, What's this about "I Might Want One" of course you want one- me too, now all we have to do is find out where from! - that's the important part!

Berkeley, CA(Zone 10a)

I could send cuttings or seeds .....:-)

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

Really?!!!! How exciting! How long does it take for seeds to germinate? I'm going to have brugs coming out of my ears! Tee hee hee!Now I need a white one, and a double one, and.......

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Audrey, where are you going to put all of your new babies??? o happy for you, Clemen

(Audrey) Dyersburg, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm going to put some in the ground, after I build up the soil a little. The rest I'll put in icecream buckets! As soon as I get a camera, I'll send pics!
