Dean, that's an awesome website, thanks! Hopefully I'll find the Brazilian bananas so that I can send to Bubba! lol!

There is such a thing as a Brazilian banana. I just don't know the scientific name.

Here is a picture of a Red Abyssinian that I planted to help hide the water softener box. They are a bit susceptible to wind damage, so do best next to a wall or fence. This one is growing very rapidly and filling out beautifully.

Here is another picture of the same tree. They get quite large. There a couple of dealers on e-bay that sell them. Locally, they are very expensive, if you can find them. Of course, they may be easier to get where you are.

Rob, I think the most ornamental are not edible. Unless you choose an Ae Ae. LOL!!! You have choices where you live. You live in a good zone for bananas. Things such as Ice Cream, and Manzano (Apple Banana).

You are making me hungry.

LOL!!!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Yeah...now I'm thinking perhaps I should get an edible one! hummmmmmmm

Roberta- you need to find the kind that comes from Brazil. The kind you remember eating. I think that would be great! It will grow where you are at, right?

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

I'm sure it will, they all grow here...if only I could know for sure which one it is! Sorry guys, I just think the bananas you buy at the grocerys here are totally TASTLESS! What is tha brand called...chiquita banana or whatever? That is NOT a real fruit, it tastes like air!

Roberta, I have never eaten anything BUT a chiquita banana. I have no point of reference.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

blagh! To me, they're the equivalent of Mc donalds fries to real fries! You know what I mean? Tastes like cardboard.

I LOVE McDonald's fries! Most people do! What do you mean, real fries? Do you actually go to the extreme measures of peeling potatoes? You know, I have heard Benny Hinn mention he eats a banana every day, but not those things you get at the grocery store. He's from Israel, you know.

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

hahah...nope, I don't make fries, but you know, if you go to a restaurant the fried don't taste like the mcD stuff.

I buy some fries at the store called Inland Valley Fajita Fries I just LOVE. They have a seasoning on them that is just yummy. How did we go from bananas to french fries? Ha! ha! Isn't it great how a womans mind works? Men just cannot keep up!

These are unknown. Got it from a person in Florida. Their supposed to get small fruit that is edible. They are next to gingers and in the front are daylilies.

This is one I got from another member (madrid) here on Dave's. Were not sure which one it is, but she thought it was Musa ornata due to flower color. This one corm has produced several pups.

Are those not planted too close together? 'Cause if not, mine are o.k. I was afraid I planted mine too close together, but they look about like that.

Another in a pot. This one is a Musa balbisana 'Gigantea' (spelling???).
