This spider has a web on my pier, about 4 feet up from the water. Legs and all, about 2.5 inches long. The front legs seem unusually long. I was unable to get a pic of the back side as it changed position when I did.

It's in the Tetragnathidae family of long-jawed orb weavers, probably genus Tetragnatha. Some are known to live near water... and hide from cameras.

Thanks, claypa. Tomorrow I will make an effort to take a pic of it's backside. That should narrow it down a bit.
