It's raining again today.....

Coast range of, OR(Zone 8b)

I think I'm going to....

Run.....

Stark.....

Raving....

Mad!!!!!!

Coast range of, OR(Zone 8b)

Sorry for my outburst but I needed to get that out into the universe.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

It is yucky here also in the Willamette Valley. Rain, wind and even had a brief hail late yesterday. The forecast looks promising starting tomorrow.. keeping my fingers crossed!

Coast range of, OR(Zone 8b)

Yea! Sunshine - just in time for my work week to start.

I am acting like a petulant child. And my weeds are laughing at me.

Issaquah, WA(Zone 7a)

Can I run with you? We're over 5 inches in the past several days with more falling now. Gusty winds last night but no hail. It's a miracle I got the lawn mowed the other evening. Ick to it all, I say.

Coast range of, OR(Zone 8b)

Let's start a marathon. Everyone is welcome.

Wait a minute....marathons are like...26 miles, right?

Let's start a 1K. Everyone is welcome.

Issaquah, WA(Zone 7a)

I'm warming up with a 0.01K to the coffee pot while waiting for a 'sun break.' At least it isn't snowing. Snoqualmie Pass 30 miles east of us. I got a kick out of this... you can click on other camera views in case you long for a snowy vista. But Click on view 2 for a chuckle.

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Even for us native PNWers, this is just too darn much. I really could use a run (and I'm not a runner - probably would drop in a tired heap after 100 feet).

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

murmur..100ft..that's pretty good..1 could go about 5 ..LOL
bad knees..don't run..just garden for my exercise..when its not raining... man it is horrible outside. the wind is very cold ..cuts right through you. I was supposed to shampoo my rugs today...with this dampness they will take to long to dry..will postpone to later this week.

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

I spent sunday cleaning out my pantry. I sure wish my garden looked as good as my pantry!

Gwen

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

My daughter and I did the pantry yesterday..looks organized again.
Still have the linen closet to do and there is always the shed... just do not feel motivated to do much of anything today indoors. Want to be outside. :(

Issaquah, WA(Zone 7a)

Hang in there Murmur. You've got plenty on your mind aside from the weather. I'm ready to sit under a 100watt bulb and pretend it's sun!

Gwen I haven't even got to part of my perennial bed for weeding yet! The shotweed is shot and shall shoot its foul little seeds all over when I do get around to picking it out. I usually have those picked well before they ripen, but not this year. Buttercup also runs rampant. One more day and our "partly sunny" should arrive YAY!

Poulsbo, WA

My son said his co-workers were calling it Junuary.
I was thinking yesterday, as I watched the limbs break off the trees,
March- in like a lion, out like a lamb. It certainly seemed more like March.

I have one of those 67 moving parts Spiderman action figures.
Ya know, for school of course.
He has been sitting like this for awhile, but he'll be doing a big high five when the sun comes out!

Thats all too funny, except for the rain. I think all of you should move to england - we have had two full days of summer! Hooooooray!

I like the idea of a nude marathon in protest of the weather - husband just got back from Madrid where they had a big bicycle protest ride through the city - several thousand nude riders saying that cars don't pay enough attention to cyclists!!! (I am struggling with all those naked bottoms meeting all those skinny little racing cycle seats - hmmm, I bet there were a lot of cyclists riding out of the saddle) BUT, (no pun intended) isn't that a wonderful protest?!

Coast range of, OR(Zone 8b)

Why couldn't it have rained like this last night while my neighbors barn was burning to the ground. I really need to make an inventory of my house for insurance purposes.

No nude bicycling for me thank you!

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

Laurie, LOL!!! yes, a great protest indeed.

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

Those Spanish. Don't they know that people would pay more attention if they always rode nude? LOL Even with all my natural padding, I'd welcome a little more between me and a bicycle seat - well, actually between me and anybody or anything. :-)

G2B - so sorry for you neighbors. Hope they didn't lose livestock and/or equipment. Where are you located in the Coast Range?

I protest the idea of nude cycling. It's making me cringe. We will all go mad together. This is ridiculous. I was visiting with some neighbors tonight out for their evening constitutional. They are in their 70's. She was wearing mittens, a down jacket, and a wooly hat. As we visited over the fence, they said they've lived here their entire lives and it's never been like this in June. It's so depressing it makes me want to do something, anything, to feel like there is a sun out there. Except nude bicycling. I can't see my way to that.

A barn burning? That's terrible! I hope no loss of animals?

Eugene, OR

Love the Spiderman. LOL

It's a shame about the barn.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Hey Got2, I'm always riding drag with this bunch, they get there before me. LOL
I so totally agree with your first outburst, I want it to go away. This I think, in the 20 years I have been has been the worst JUNE I have ever scene, I have seen allot of bad winters, but this takes the cake. In one week I have my driveway flood, a large limb come down which damage some things, which are not important, but I never had the like in June. OK I done ranting.
Thank you for putting it out there first.
And hope all is well with the barn, hope no fur babies where hurt.

And as far as it goes with people riding bikes in the nude, That is there own problem with saddle sores LOL

The Fremont Fair Parade always has nude bicyclists that invite themselves. And if I am not mistaken there was one Critical Mass ride that with many riders in the buff.

As to the weather. Its a little cooler than normal, but not record setting. And its just what June is supposed to be after getting May's tease.

I too would prefer shorts, and t-shirts, but we do live in the GPNW. Right? Its supposed to be rainy and temperate. Hey, be glad it isn't January, the air would be more like the low 40s. Heck I went for a short bike ride today. Yes, I was dressed, as it was too cold to ride in the buff.

Coast range of, OR(Zone 8b)

Sorry I haven't posted for a while - I got distracted from the miserable day outside by taking care of my new baby. See my thread here:

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/861680/

As far as the neighbors barn - yes, they lost some of their baby chickens, but it was mostly equipment.

Port Angeles, WA(Zone 8b)

For all you nekkid bike riders, there is a worldwide protest organized to "draw attention to oil dependency and the negative social and environmental impacts of a car dominated culture." It's called the "World Naked Bike Ride" and people around the world, beginning around March and ending sometime in August, go on organized nekkid bike rides. Some of the riders are quite comical (some shouldn't be outside in their birthday suits!) At any rate, with all the talk about nekkid biking and the like, I thought you'd all like to know there's an opportunity to participate if you're so inclined (not that I have or ever will participate, but certainly didn't want anyone to miss out!) ^_^

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

What May tease? What did I miss? No, this is not normal. And today looks pretty crummy so far, too.

Coast range of, OR(Zone 8b)

Looks like it is going to be another crummy day here...I think I'll go into town and spend some money.

A little retail therapy.

Katie59 - I live in Blodgett, Oregon. The weather is a lot like the Willamette Valley except we are higher in elevation so we get more snow in the winter. We are closer to the coast so we get more wind in the afternoons (on-shore breeze off the ocean). We are about 3-4 weeks behind the valley for spring blooms. My lilacs just finished and my rhodies are still going strong. Most rhodies I see in the valley are already done by now.

My chicken lived through the night.

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

It's always like this in June on Whidbey. Altho we usually get much nicer weather in May than we got this year. Then it goes back to this for June and will continue to rain until mid July even if it's just a drizzle in July. But once July hits, it's a warm rain. With some nice days intermingled.

But I first came to Whidbey in June. It was the most torrential rain! I was worried I might not get off the island, never having been here and not knowing if the ferries shut down in really bad weather. LOL

Gwen

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

I'm glad your little baby chick lived through the night - a good sign!

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

We are behind everything too. My rhodies, at least some of them, are still going strong and my lilacs are still gorgeous!
Gwen

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

The May tease is warm days, blue skies, before the winter ends in July.

Heres the scoop from NOAA: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/climate/yeardisp.php?wfo=sew&stn=KSEW&submit=Yearly+Charts .

If you notice, the air temperature cooled off in about February to something below the mean, but still in what is considered normal, that has continued with the exception of a warmer period in the last period of May.

But I still hold to my point. It is cooler than usual, but within what is normally expected.

Oh, and if you notice rainfall is behind for the year.

Coast range of, OR(Zone 8b)

Cool chart AnalogDog. Wonder if they have something similar for Oregon?

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

I think it is cooler too. And I keep hearing we are behind in rain but I think they aren't measuring too good! LOL It is rain rain rain here every day.

Gwen

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

To quote today's Seattle P-I: "Chilly June Weather - High temperatures have been around 10 degrees lower than is normal for early June, making this one of the coldest starts to the month ever recorded."

Whidbey Island, WA(Zone 7a)

And also in the P-I "Coldest start to month in history raises electric bills, stalls farm crops." And "Coming Thursday . . . P-I gardening experts Marty Wingate and Chris discuss what the cold, wet spring might mean for your garden - and how to cultivate some success." I guess we may need to read that one!

Woodinville, WA(Zone 8b)

If I had a nickel for the number of people who have lost all their vegetable starts. None of them are thriving without sun.

Guess it depends on what you consider normal. In the biggest picture, floods, earthquakes, volcanoes are all normal. In my snapshot, they are not normal (or I wouldn't live here).

So, no, AD, this spring is not within what a reasonable resident of these parts would call normal. I'm not buyin' the scientific justification.

Buckeye, AZ(Zone 9a)

I have always told all my visitors, please do not come for sun until July 5th, if you want drizzle and cold come in June...lol Guess I hit the nail on the head...

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I'm convinced the only reason in was warm here for a few days in May was because my kids' school had their annual all day track meet and we had to be outside in 90° weather all day. My first sunburn of the year.

Mountlake Terrace, WA(Zone 8a)

Ah, yes, another scientific skeptic.

Its cold, but since the fifties, its well within reason. I remember many times being cold during June, and even on the 4th of July. Heck if the latter half of this month is as warm as the first half were cold, I bet most folks would be calling it a heat wave.

The starts been dying, the rhodies are in bloom, and my darn lawn is still growing. It is a joke how cold it has been, but it is still within reason for this time of year.

Rob

Marysville, WA(Zone 7a)

It has been in the mid to upper 80's all week and a "little coolness" isn't so bad, as long as it goes away today. Perfect weather for a R U (down California way). The Great Wet does play H## with the carrot patch, bendy-over Peonies, Oriental poppies and such, but look how green the plants that didn't wash away are. Is this what Global Warming is going to be like ?

Buckeye, AZ(Zone 9a)

LOL I personally have sang Christmas Carols on July 4th while wrapped in blankets under and an eave to watch neighborhood fireworks!

Langley, WA(Zone 7b)

Robert, is that a typo??? How is it possible you have had 80 degree weather. You're not that far away!

Gwen
