CLOSED: Earwigs in USA

Churchill, Victoria, Australia(Zone 10a)

We have a problem in BugFiles. Sometime ago I added an Australian Earwig: Nesogaster ruficeps to BugFiles and recorded its common name as just Earwig.

I was recently drawn to look at the entry as an image was added which showed earwig damage to foliage. I noticed that the new entry came from an American member and I then noticed that 6 comments have been added and as many as 20 different localities, all reporting it for America. I checked again, and this earwig is not known outside Australia. It seems that many users have searched for Earwig and not checked the scientific name and added their data: http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/1369/

I have to somehow correct this confusion.

Is there one Earwig species that is common all across America, If there is we can assume all this data relates to this species. If there is no obvious contender, then I shall have to delete all the comments and localities.

I note that the European Earwig - Forficula auricularia is well-established in America and I know it is easily seen wherever it lives. http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/1362/ Is this perhaps the Earwig that all these well-meaning user have assumed was meant by my Australian one?

That reminds me, I think I added a zip code report or something for the Ozzie version of our "thousand-legger". I better go look...
