Anyone in Penn Valley???

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

One of my sister's and her husband just bought a "view with a house" in Penn Valley on a man made lake. I haven't seen it yet, but they're redoing the house almost entirely.

Soon she will want gardening/landscaping ideas and I know zip about that climate up there...and she knows even less.

Anyone familiar with that zone and low maintenance plants? She is NOT a gardener, but is "willing to learn"...(famous last words, right? LOL ! )

Any tips on good nurseries up there?
I have no clue as to their soil, exposures, etc.

I'll know more when I see the place in August or September, but in the interim, if anyone can add ANY help I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
JD

I'm West of Nevada City on a sunny hill side. It gets a little colder here but is about the same as Lake Wildwood. Tell your sister to start at the Prospector Nursery in Nevada City. because they are very helpful. carri
