Maypop propagation

Roswell, GA(Zone 7b)

I came across two small maypop vines near where we live. I dug them up but was only able to get a few inches of root because they were in hard clay. Right now they are in a glass of water under a grow light.

Is this the best way to root these plants or should I used another method? The vines are about a foot long.

You could put them in some loose soil and keep them out of direct sunlight for a few days, slowly letting them get more sun each day. They wilt easily. Make sure you keep them watered well because the roots have been moved and are in shock, needing alot of water. This is just my experience. You could try one like that and one in water.

They grow like weeds here, and I have literally pulled one up and stuck it in the yard in another place and it grew. I have monster maypop vines, I wish I had a current picture of the one in front of my house that is about 20 feet tall right now.
