Son found this snake between the shed and garage on the lawn.
it's length between 18-24 inches (I can't judge a snake length, they're all 6 feet long to me, lol)
it seemed more concerned with getting away from us, 3 humans and 3 dogs.... gave me no reason to think it is an agressive snake...... anyone know what kind this one is?
just hope he wasn't here for a family reunion.....
CLOSED: I haven't seen this snake before, beautiful markings.....
Closest I can find is the Eastern Fox Snake

looks like a corn snake... coloration can widely vary...could even be an escaped pet... corn snakes are common pets

There are several species of snake that can have this general color pattern, but based primarily on the head markings, I would say that this more likely is an eastern milk snake (Lampropeltis triangulum triangulum) - see http://www.kbs.msu.edu/ACWA/natres/natrgrh/snakes/emilk.jpg
They are closely related to king snakes.
I will agree with suunto, it does look more like the eastern milk snake, especially the head markings.
Thanks for your help.
it's good to know that it is NOT a poisonous snake....
It is for sure an Eastern Milk Snake, and a good one to have around, they will keep the rodent population in check. BTW that is a really pretty one.
lol, about rodent population control, good thing, 'cause our young, well fed cats are pretty much useless in that department.....
We have a milk snake that comes into our cellar to shed her skin-and maybe to hunt the white footed mice. Her shed skin was four feet long last year. We saw her in the rain on our road once and she was stopping SUVIS> thought she'd dissapeared until my wife pulled another shed skin from behind the water heater last night. I don't know why my wife yells so loud when that snake shows up on the rafters- she's a far better mouser tweedyhan the cats and she can crawl up through the walls.
Snakes are good people to have around!
