Just noticed these eggs all over my Yoshino cherry tree this morning. There are typically a pair of eggs at the base of most of the leaves, as well as some eggs on the edges of some leaves. What's going to hatch from them and probably eat my entire tree? And can I do anything to prevent them from hatching, or is it too late?
Whose eggs are on my Yoshino cherry?
I'll answer my own question here in case it helps anyone else. Someone at another forum tells me that these are part of the Yoshino's leaf structure, not eggs. Sure enough, I did a little digging and found a couple references to glands at the base of the Yoshino's petiole (aka leaf stalk). Huh. Any idea what function these glands serve?
Yep, they're glands that are supposed to be there. Not sure what their function is, though.
