botrytis

Louisville, KY

I have what I think is botrytis on some of my lillies. The leaves first turn brown on the tips than the whole leaf turns brown. This occurs from the bottom of the stem and goes up I have removed the infected leaves and sprayed both the infected and uninfected plants with daconil. It does seem to be spreading. Two questions :

Is my diagnois of bortrytis correct.

Should I be spraying with something else?

Are there also round or elliptical spots on these leaves? Have you also had a lot of rain or watered a lot? It starts from the bottom and moves up because the spores are on the soil and splash up onto the lower leaves. From there it moves upward due to the proximity of infected leaves to uninfected leaves.

We had hail several times early in the spring. This opens little wounds on the leaves making it easier for botrytis to set in. Needless to say I have a few lilies that aren't very resistant to this fungal pest.

Excess water will also cause the leaves to drop from the bottom up. But if that is the only problem there should not be any circular infection spots apparent on the leaf surface.

yes I think thats it. Is Daconil the spray to use?

I really don't know much about different fungicides. I've used Daconil for leaf spot on my bearded irises without any problems. Seems like it should be ok on the lilies.

Thanks Pard
