My Bob Hope Camellia cuttings

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Is there ANYONE out there that would like to have my cuttings off of my beautiful "Bob Hope" Camellia bush??????????

I had to give it a serious pruning this year--so i did it yesterday. I have a lot of long tip-cuttings--now in a plastic bag in the basement--if anyone wants then for postage.
Mind you! Camellia cuttings are NOT easy to root! You have to know what you are doing!

In case you are interested--D-mail me! asap!

If no one grabs them, I'd happily pay for them. I'm working on the cuttings you gave me earlier, but I'm just getting my teeth sharpened! If I succeed, I'll distribute them at the next swap.

Happy,

I contacted the Cylburn Arboretum--but everyone there seemed to be too busy to bother....
I sent them e-mails with pictures of how beautiful this Camellia is, and I have not yet heard back from anyone.

Lost cause--I say!

Do you really want ALL the cuttings I just took????? I would say, it is close to 1/2 a tall kitchen trash bag-full. I have already forgotten that I have them in the basement......
I hope, having been cut for a few days already--it would not affect their rooting...

Let me know asap!!!!! I'll throw them all in a box--and you should have it in a day or two.

And---I think it will be at least 2-3 years before you can "distribute" the rooted plants to anyone. I just think they take their time. What does Mike say???

I do want them all, and I'm delighted to pay for postage -- that'd save me the drive. I got great advice from Mike, and found several other approaches on-line. I haven't consolidated it into one place (I was going to send you an email regarding the different approaches, but haven't gotten around to it -- I'm sorry). I'm busy potting up astilbe today. . . .

O will try to get them boxed up and send them out tomorrow!

WHAT are you going to do if they all "take"????? Maybe I'll get a few back to share with some friends?

Of course I'll give back to you as many as you want! But I wouldn't count them before they hatch! That is, I'm not Mike, and might not be successful, though I have all the best intentions and best advice!

Of course, Happy!!!!

I do not need any more for MY garden--just thought it would be awesome to have a couple rooted cuttings to share with friends....NO obligation!!!!!...OK?

Got your cuttings all boxed. Going out tomorrow (Monday).....You should have them by Wednesday. I appreciate the Postage reimbursement!
Most of them will need re-cutting to get smaller cuttings. I remember that Mike also cut them all in half--or it thirds--and they all still rooted!

Please--DO share any of the methods of rooting Camellias that you learned about from Mike. One day, I might just try it myself.....

Best--Gita

Thanks, Gita. Dmail me the postage amount, if you think of it; if not, I'll just send you whatever is marked on the box. Many many many thanks!

Holly,

Whatever is marked on the box has always worked for me! You can always round it up to the next dollar--for the effort.........:o)

Thanks, Gita

Gita, That is just beautiful and you are so kind to share. I'm trying to find a red one that will survive in Philadelphia. Mary

There are some camellias at the National Arboretum in Washington D.C. You could check the varieties on red survivors there.

Gita is definitely THE BEST!

The red that blooms reliably for Christmas here is Professor Charles Sargeant. It is an anemone form type.

Thank you, Gloria, I'll look a it! Mary

According to the vendor that Plant Files lists, Professor Charles Sargeant is only hardy to zone 7: http://stores.homestead.com/ecolage/Detail.bok?no=343. Plant Files lists it as only hardy to zone 8.

Gita: The cuttings arrived today! Keep your fingers crossed that between the last batch and these, at least some will root!!! Many thanks!

Great, Happy!

Did they seem OK? Roasted? Cool? Just OK? I NEED to know!

You know what I HATE about the PO? They want to generate more $$$$ by telling you that if you send a package by regular parcel Post--it will take 5-6 days to get there! They want to push for the higher postage! Delivery confirmation???? Insurance??? (on cuttings--Yeah, sure!)....
I told her straight to her face----"I don't believe you! It is ONLY going to DC and it will be there by Wednesday!--it will ONLY take 2 days for it to get there!" Well--It got there in ONE day! Enough proof?

Don't ANYONE fall for this c--p! Just like pushing for "extended warranties" whenever you buy an appliance anywhere--or anything else--that is ALL pure profit to the Company! They just want your money! Be a SMART consumer.......

Please keep me updated to the cuttings' progress.....would LOVE to see pictures of the stages of....

They arrived in perfect condition! I'll try to take photos -- it means borrowing my daughter's camera!
